So I'll just tell myself all of the things I can't say to you yet (Fic)
Second Chapter here!
Pairing: Ghostflower (Miles x Gwen.)
Chapter: 3/4.
Summary: Miles reflects on something his friends say, and as he hides in Gwen's room he can't help but wonder, could Gwen actually feel the same?
Maybe he could find the answer in the way he least expected.
Miles didn't have time to say anything before the door was thrown in his face; at least he could understand some of the panic she had.
He didn't think Captain Stacy disliked him that much, he did ask a few...interesting questions the handful of times they had seen each other, but he guesses Gwen has a point. Heck, he is a dude and his parents were harsh on Gwen so he doesn't want to imagine what would happen if the man actually thought he was trying to do some funny business.
As he felt his ears go red with the idea, the conversation he had with his friends a couple of days ago popped back into his mind.
"You need to do something about that," Hobie mindlessly said sitting on his couch, as he try to tune out the hellish device Margo has brought with her. Apparently, it was the modern equivalent in her world to an electric guitar, and they were trying to see if Hobie being from the seventies could figure it out.
Miles liked everyone in the group, and while he had his reservations about the organization, the 'spidey-gang' (As it has become the unofficial name for them,) had become some sort of found family. Regardless of what could have happened in the past, both the friends he did when they crashed in his dimensions and the ones he made while traveling through them for the first time had proven to him to be worth sticking around for.
Of course, there were people he gravitated more heavily towards, mostly the ones his age (he loved Peter B and the rest, but if he needed to hear one more 'in my day-') Of those, Hobie and Margo were kind of his best friends, the ones he gravitates towards the most.
Well, except for Gwen, but she has always been kind of an exception, despite how hard he had tried to work against it.
"Do something about what?" He asked clueless, or was clueless as he could pretend to be. He knew exactly what he meant when Hobie suggested a song to play and Miles decided to comment on how Gwen liked that song.
"Seriously?" Margo gave him a look from her position, hovering over Hobie. The plan was for him to figure it out, but Margo was watching out in case that while trying to find how this thing worked he would end up blowing them up.
They were hanging out in Hobie's universe, which was the usual. Margo would hang anywhere that wasn't her actual dimension, and while Miles from time to time will bring his friends, it definitely is NOT when they were trying a futuristic device that looked more like a torture machine than an instrument; how Hobie found a way to tune it was beyond him.
Hobie's home was actually in an abandoned boat canal, in a hole-on-the-wall kind of way. Miles thought it was crazy cool, despite the constant state of disarray that didn't even have to do with the fact that things changed colors as Hobie did; it took a while to get used to but it was still great.
Hobie's place was basically this basement of sorts that seemed to have been some type of warehouse a long time ago; the room had thick walls, no windows whatsoever (which Hobie said was a plus when you are running from the authorities,) and everything was basically in one place. They were in the "living room" which consisted of a beat-up couch, a coffee table made up of a cinderblock and half a wood plank, with a bunch of homemade bean bags for anyone who wanted something else (Which has been his seating of choice as it gave him a better angle to sketch Hobie.)
A few meters away there was the kitchen, and not so far was Hobie's bed, with curtains hanging from the ceiling as a way to have some sort of privacy. The only place that actually led to another room was the bathroom, that for being made by outlaws with no plumbing degree, worked a lot better than some places he has seen in his New York. The place was also covered in posters and graffiti, including some done by Miles himself; if he was honest he was kind of jealous knowing he would probably never have the chance to do something like this even if he gets to own a place.
As his friends glared at him, Miles went back to his sketchbook and pretend everything was fine; that has been all his strategy really.
Every time he thought he was looking too much at her, that he was hanging around her too much, or similar, he would make sure to walk away, look somewhere else, something; it was about time that he did.
After the disastrous events that were his first time in the Spider Society, he took some time to himself. Not too long, and not really isolating either; just some time with his universe with his people trying to take in all that happened; as well as adjusting to his parents knowing the secret and all the things that came with it. It wasn't an easy process but it was worth it.
During that time he had reflected about being Spiderman, about all the people he had met and the mistakes he had made trying to be more like them instead of himself. He has thought of Peter B, who he adored as a mentor, yet also stuck in his ways to see what's in front of him at times. He thought of Gwen.
He loved her, it would be stupid of him to try to act as if that wasn't the case. Miles also put her on a pedestal though, as this badass girl who could make no mistake and could kick his ass any day of the week; she could be great, amazing, and beautiful, but she was still human; and perhaps part of his heartbreak about her mistake was about him realizing that.
It would be a lie to say it didn't hurt to think of it, regardless, he couldn't really fault her for what she did. Gwen didn't have anywhere to go, and even if she did it late, she also stand up for him, she was the one to get everyone to save him; even when he was bitter about what has happened he couldn't deny that he understood how much he mattered to Gwen.
As a friend.
That was the conclusion he got after everything was said at done, once the dust settled and he was able to talk again with the friends who turn their back on him before. He couldn't continue chasing after Gwen like a dream as he did in the past year and a half; he has been lucky she liked him enough to not be creeped out by the amount of drawings he had in his sketchbook.
He was also trying very hard not to fill it with her.
That was the problem, he needed to move on; she had told him before that things don't tend to work with Gwen Stacy and Spiderman, and if she hasn't mentioned something else then he was going to take the hint.
The last thing he needed was to lose her because he was looking at her like a little boy crushing on the cool girl on the block.
Realizing that pretending to be busy with his sketchbook wasn't going to stop them from staring, they looked at them and barked "What?"
"Are you seriously telling me you aren't going to make a move on Gwen?"
"What move is there to make?" He shrugged, not even bothering to deny his feelings in the matter, he trusted them; besides, there wasn't much of a point wasn't it? "We are friends, friends is great! And is what Gwen wants anyways."
"Gwen wants that?" Margo replied incredulously, looking back at Hobie like she needed to make sure her avatar wasn't suddenly messing up the signal or something
Miles wasn't sure what was about, but Hobie moved away from the device to put his feet on the ground and said "Okay, that's a bunch of Porky, there is no way my drummer actually said that"
Trying to make a mental list of all the cockney slang he has learned from him, he luckily quickly realized he was calling Miles a liar and not talking about their pig friend; perhaps he should tell Hobie to keep that one to himself in case Ham ever got a problem with that.
"She did!" He defended himself, letting the sketchbook on the ground, stopping to pretend he could actually concentrate on it; "She told me the first day she saw me again."
"The first day, as the day you met when she needed to watch on The Spot?"
"Yes? What would that have anything to do with this? Spot or not she isn't interested."
Margo and Hobie stared at him, intensely, in fact they slowly blinked at him, before Margo turned at Hobie once more. "He deadass doesn't know?"
"Apparently," Hobie muttered while he stretched his legs, "All this time I just assumed he was still processing what happened, not well, that."
"The heck are you two talking about?"
"Miles, Gwen is crazy about you;" Margo drops out of nowhere, her form disappearing from the top of the couch to be in front of it, closer to Miles.
"What!? Wait, really? How- There is no way." He mutters, unsure of what to say or ask first. It wasn't possible, right? No after all this time.
His incredulity only seemed to add more fuel to Margo's distress, turning to Hobie again "Come on Hobs, back me up here."
He seemed to think about it, opening his mouth, before his colors chanted to a blue-grey hue, shrugging, and taking back the instrument, putting it on his lap.
"Hobie!"
"Sorry luv, I would love to help but I still have my loyalties, and I can only say so much before I lose my drummer."
"Oh please, now you are making me sound like she isn't my friend too!" She complained as she went to the couch, sitting on the arm of it even if she didn't need to sit anywhere, crossing her arms; "It doesn't count when is not a secret, and there is no way this has ever been one; I am pretty sure even Miguel knows."
Miles didn't want to imagine what exactly Miguel would know about his love life, or lack of it.
Shaking his head, Miles leans forwards leaving his arms against his legs for support "Okay, in case you are right-" Miles didn't want to admit, it because he knew if he got his hopes up just to fall face first he wouldn't recover easily; "What exactly makes you believe that?"
"The fact that when I met you I thought you guys were already a thing, for starters."
"Wait what!? Why?"
Arching an eyebrow like she really couldn't believe he was asking, she said "Miles, when I met you the first thing she said to you after talking to me was to move on; she then proceeded to lasso you to string you away. I was surprised to see Gwen was so protective of her boyfriend when then I learned you guys weren't even dating."
Opening his mouth, he leaves it hanging open for a second as he tries to remember. He has been so surprised about the different villains, the technology, and the possibility of being a part of that (ironic considering now he avoided the place like the black plague,) that he hasn't even processed Gwen's behavior at that moment.
"I mean, we were late to see Miguel, and considering what he does when he is aggro I can't blame her for not wanting to make things worse"
This is the part where Hobie goes back to looking at him straight in the eye at says "Mate, look at me."
"Am I doing so?" Miles pointed out, confused.
"Do you think I would give a flying fuck for what he wanted, even as the head of the organization?"
"No?"
"Then why do you think I told you to get going JUST before Gwen lassoed you away?" Hobie argues, just as skeptical as Margo was.
And to his answer, he has nothing, because honestly if it was for Hobie he would have probably taken Gwen and Miles to his home dimension and say bye to the Society before Miles had the chance to make a case for himself. And the only thing that would make him act against that would be being there for his friends, like his drummer.
"Thank you! Now that wasn't too hard wasn't it?"
"I haven't yet said anything, just pointing out things" He shrugged, going back to the artifact; he was currently testing the strings (or so Miles assumed those were strings by the way the holographic lines moved.)
"Okay, if Gwen is actually interested in me, why she hasn't asked me out? Is not like I had been subtle."
"You had actually come a long way since you were jealous of my very existence," Hobie praised him as he put a hand on his own chest, though Miles felt kind of insulted. Even if it was true.
"Yeah, you haven't been acting the same around her; and do I need to remind you she was one of those people you specifically asked to stay away for a while?" Margo pointed out, leaning towards Hobie to open a compartment on the instrument, check inside, and then close it back satisfied.
Should he be concerned that she is checking it as if she is making sure it doesn't start a fire?
"But wouldn't be easier egg her to do this?"
Margo barks a laugh, as she literally steadies herself for a moment before shaking her head and replying to him "Pfff, Miles, we love Gwen, you know I love that girl, but I think if you ask her between talking about her feelings and eating glass, she may eat the glass."
With his side leaning to the side, Hobie nodded "Hate to admit it, but she is right; she is so lip-tied the greatest John Hopper would probably still have a hard time getting something out of her even if she was strapped in the interrogation chair."
Luckily the dialogue gave him a clue or what that is, at least Hobie didn't call them pigs like in his universe.
Is not that he didn't want to believe it, shit it was probably the thing he wanted to hear the most for a good while. But he could bring himself to get his hopes up, he has done exactly that in the Williamsburg Tower and the heartache that followed wasn't pretty; he really didn't want to repeat the experience.
It sounded all too good to be true.
"I am still not sure-"
"Ugh!" Margo complained as she threw her head up, annoyed "Look, want your own answers? Ask her about that day when you see her again; ask her what was her mission was, that should do the trick."
"Really? How?"
"If you think for a hard second what was her mission and what she end up doing, it becomes very obvious what's going on; that's at least half the reason I am convinced this can't be considered a secret for that alone."
Miles felt just as clueless as before, however, that last part was something that would stay in his mind for a while.
Including today.
It was kind of silly, especially knowing it was nobody's fault really, yet he felt bad for putting Gwen in this position. He went to help her out today because they were friends and that's what they do for each other, and what happened? Oh yeah, he got his ass kicked, definitely got some new scars because not even super healing could fix all of this, and got her both worried, guilty, and trying to hide him from her dad.
"Yep, totally crushing this friendship thing."
The only consolation prize he had is that at least by doing so he distracted the villain long enough for them to find a way to trap the bad guy, and that Gwen hasn't been the one getting hurt. Ever since the incident with Pavitr's universe, he can't stop thinking that perhaps a tragedy was avoided just by having an extra spidey person around. Maybe is being a good person, or a bit of a simp, but he wasn't joking when he said he was happy to take the hit if it meant she wasn't the one suffering this.
Speaking of which-
"You aren't here a bit early?"
"Not really? Is still early so I haven't wanted to stress the team too much-"
Trying to ignore Gwen's conversation with her dad (he could easily hear with his super hearing, yet she deserved a bit of privacy.) He decided maybe it was better to check the damage; looking over his shoulder, Miles looked at the reflection on the window.
"Shoot, hope mami doesn't realize this happened before is fully healed," Miles thought to himself.
The window could only give him so much detail, and yet he could already tell this wasn't good. Sure, most of his bad had small cuts that were already closing and turning in fine lines. There were also bigger ones that Gwen had needed to close with self-dissolving stitches (specially designed to dissolver quicker for spider people, the Spider Society did have some perks.) Gwen did a good job, it was considerably more clean and would not get infected, but it still burned and hurt like hell.
Taking advantage of that he could see a bit of himself on the reflection of the glass, he tried to become invisible. Recalling his powers when he was in pain was sometimes a bit of a toss of a coin; depending on the damage and the situation, his invisibility powers could become faulty, and his electricity trick near impossible because it made the pain worse, if not stress the wound. When he didn't have the adrenaline to help him out, it became more like a coin toss when you are having a bad day and the coin falls on the drain.
Even if slower than usual, he did manage to become invisible, for the most part; his camouflaged tried to get to his back, yet the pain made it impossible for him to go all the way. And he also noticed, part of his suit wasn't becoming invisible.
"Great, I hit the range," He lamented to himself, looking at the destroyed top of his suit with annoyance.
He was able to camouflage himself and his clothes, which was an important distinction since he has seen enough media to know some people didn't have that luck. However, just like he couldn't make Doc Ock's PC invisible, at some point his camouflage randomly decides what it can or can't do, and now it is 'Not fully invisible until you are better, and maybe other clothes.'
Good thing he didn't have the chance to remind Gwen about it, he couldn't do it properly for a few seconds, if it needed to be for more than that they were toast. That, or something get's him scared enough to do it.
In this apartment, he wondered if there would be a way to start a portal without making something fly, or make obvious something is going on. Hobie's watch was amazing, yet not the most discrete when it was about dimension hopping; Miles would DEFINITELY need to be careful when he gets back home, and he wouldn't make sure to hide in Gwen's room if by trying to escape he announced his exit.
In other words, for being a very low-stakes situation for once in his life, he was just as trapped as if he was between the Spot and Miguel's talons.
Sighing, at least in this case he could just sit.
Making sure to not stain anything, Miles sits on the ground and looks around a bit since there wasn't anything else to do. He has been in Gwen's room before, never for too long though. He liked the vibe in it, the walls were a nice blue color that even if you could notice the color probably was more vibrant in the past, matched really well with the number of posters Gwen had around, including some from her former band with the Mary Janes, and the one she was currently in with Hobie.
There was a bunch of nicknacks around, some obvious gifts from some of their friends from other dimensions. He even spotted a few pictures of the group, a couple with Hobie and Peni extra scattered around, maybe from the time when the organization was still commanded by Miguel.
None of him and Gwen just the two of them together, "So much for being different."
As soon as he thought about it, he had the impulse to hit himself in the head. He couldn't continue being bitter, Hobie has even joked that he had come a long way from his jealousy! Miles didn't have the right to get upset, regardless if something was happening or not. At least it looked like she was slowly feeling more comfortable with other people; she deserved more than just him and the memory of Peter.
He couldn't just, help but want more.
Mindlessly, his right-hand goes to his back, the same place she has tenderly caressed early. She has been so soft and careful with him, there was something about her touch that made his skin feel sparks and have a billion butterflies in his stomach. For a moment he put his hand on top of hers, and at that moment he wanted nothing more but to properly grab her hand, and tell her that it didn't matter what happened, he would be ready to be there for her.
Good thing he remembered on time to tone it down, to stop himself from doing something more romantic. The fact that he would also protect his other friends wasn't a lie, just, not exactly what he has actually been thinking at that moment.
It was hard, it was a constant battle to remember to limit himself; initially, he has hoped it would eventually turn natural, and he would move on. It hasn't been the case yet.
He hasn't really noted anything of interest on Gwen's part, at most a tad of surprise of him saying that. Maybe Margo had a point of him being a tad more distant ever since they started talking again; though he felt it was better to overcorrect than risk it.
The idea still resonated in his mind, could Gwen really be into-
Suddenly the voices suddenly sound a lot closer, and he hears Captain Stacy say basically behind the door "-Weren't you saying your door has been squeaking a lot? Let me check."
"Dad!"
"Shit!" He thought alarmed as he heard the man get his hand on the doorknob; he couldn't risk being seen and he wasn't sure his invisibility would activate.
So without giving it a second thought, he moved quickly toward the closet, and silently close the door as fast as he was able to. Trying to quiet his own breathing, he kneels on the ground and tries to listen carefully this time around.
"What's going on?" Captain Stacy asks, his voice is louder this time; he definitely opened the door. Miles stops breathing.
Before he had time to panic and blow up his cover, Gwen said "Oh well, you know how messy my room is."
"Oh honey, you were worried about that? To be honest I think you inherited my lack of neatness-"
As Miles was able to calm down as he realized he hasn't been discovered, he relaxed a bit and opened his eyes, which were adapted already to darkness and the little light it could have (part of his Spiderman perks.)
Which was a good thing, because if he had a normal human night vision, he would have definitely been tempted to get out his dying phone and turn on the flashlight to make sure he wasn't crazy.
In front of him there was a notebook, one of those vintage with leather on the cover, or so he suspected because the notebook was open; he could barely understand what the words said from this distance, yet he could see well enough the polaroid on top of it, the image of it has been burned in his mind for 2 years now. Is the first picture of them, with Peter B's legs in the background.
That wasn't the part that made him feel crazy, even if he was elated to realize there was a picture of them like Peni's or Hobbie's. No, the thing he wasn't sure he was hallucinating was a plushie.
A Spiderman plushie, of him.
Moving slowly, still trying to be quiet, he grabs the plushie. As ridiculous as he thinks the thought is, he is surprised he is touching it instead of being a figment of his imagination; even more when while looking closely at it, he can realize that is not merchandise of anyone else with a similar suit.
Especially because he recognized this brand, he saw them fairly recently; just a few weeks-
He remembers something and if he wasn't consciously trying to be quiet, he would have gasped.
During the festival where he had invited everyone on the spidey-gang, at one point everyone more or less went their own separate ways or in smaller groups for different things. At some point, Gwen had found her way back to Miles's little group (that had Hobie and Pav as they were trying to see if spidey-powers could defeat rigged carnival games) with a paper bag that she has been adamant was just some snacks for later. While he has been just as curious as Pav, he decided to act like Hobie and just move on with the topic; it couldn't be that big of a deal.
In a million years, he would have imagined it was this.
As he took away the plushie, he took a closer inspection at the notebook and the Polaroid with it, he realized what was written down were lyrics.
I'd like to know your middle name Let's talk about your parents and your future dreams I'm interested but distant to a fault And I never wanna complicate your heart
I've gotta let you know That I think that I love you so You could be my only one 'Cause I think that I love you so
I know we only just met So why do I feel invested? And do you feel it too? Do you feel it too? I could be your best yet Future favorite regret Do you feel it too? Do you feel it too?
So I'll just tell myself All of the above when I'm alone
...Miles felt himself forgetting to breathe for a second as he read the lyrics; if he has seen this by itself, he may have been thinking Gwen had a crush on someone else. Except that he found this on a notebook that had a Polaroid with his picture (then on a closer inspection, this picture looks a lot older than the ones he saw around Gwen's room,) and a plushie of him. To top it all off, he saw that around the lyrics, his name was around.
There were on different fonts, a bit similar to his graffiti, but he could recognize his name.
As he looked at the edges of the notebook, he wondered if by chance, there was more. It would not be good to snoop around...however, Gwen did look at his sketchbook; and she has been teasing him about having a secret notebook for a while.
Thinking to stop if he saw anything too personal; he looked around the pages almost expecting to see nothing else, to have the wild fantasy that seemed to be happening to him show something that could contradict his view. It wasn't the case.
More lyrics appeared, his name peppered around too, even some extra pictures there ("She kept them here, to keep them safe" He thought gleefully to himself, realizing that he recognized the photobooth pictures they had taken over the last few months, the few physical pictures of them and she has to keep them safe just like him.) The lyrics were about yearning, about keeping feelings close to your chest, about a love you couldn't stop yourself from feeling for someone. He remembered how casually Gwen has smiled at him, after she saw those pictures; was this why she hadn't actually freaked out? Because she was doing the same with music?
He eventually stopped being able to concentrate on reading properly altogether, as he closed the notebook, he needed to make a big effort to not laugh in glee, putting a hand on top of the biggest grin he ever had in his life. He never thought how difficult it could be to be quiet when you are so happy, but here he was.
Miles could almost hear his own heart sing in elation, trying to beat out of his chest in excitement. 2 years, he had feelings for Gwen for 2 years, and ever since he thought his best shot has been before he knew she was from another universe; he remembered those lonely months missing everyone, thinking on how especially he wanted to see her, yet needed to remember to being friends. On what happened after, with him deciding it was better to get over it before it could hurt his friendship.
"Miles, Gwen is crazy about you;" Margo's words came to mind, and he hasn't wanted to believe her because he didn't want to be heartbroken if it wasn't the case. Now he can't believe he really doubted her.
"She likes me, she really likes me," He thought to himself, still feeling as if he was on cloud 9.
Never in his life Miles has been so glad to feel like such an idiot.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Yes, I know I said 3 chapters, however! This was getting too long, I am hoping I will not need to add more chapters. Let's see what I write. The lyrics are a slightly modified version of the song Telephone by Waterparks, because that's the song that I was hearing when I wrote the first chapter, and also the one where the title comes from. I thought of putting more lyrics, yet I felt Miles reaction to them would be a bit too cheesy, so I decided only to do one set of lyrics. Wrote this until late at night, and woke up before work to edit this, because my impulse control is a mess. Hopefully I edited well enough. I originally wasn't going to release the rest of this series here, but is just a short story, and I found some people don't actually use ao3, so as a courtesy so everyone can finish the story, the last chapter will also be posted here. And that's all for now! Please leave a comment if you like it!
Fourth and last chapter here!

some of my thoughts on drawing, learning the accordion, and how they apply to each other.
i have been drawing my whole life. the last time i can remember feeling genuinely ashamed of my artistic skills was when i was probably 12. at some point i was able to look at my art and realize it wasn’t anywhere near perfect, and i became okay with that. nowadays, i have no anxiety about posting my art or leaving a piece with flaws, because i like my style and i’m comfortable enough in my skills and the knowledge that there will always be room for improvement to allow myself to simply enjoy what i create.
i have always been fascinated by the accordion. around age 11 i started considering learning to play it. by 13 i saw one at an antique store and seriously considering buying it for a long time, but did not. as the years go on i find that artistic burnout is becoming more of a frequent issue with me, and i often find myself desperately wishing i had a gratifying way of expressing myself other than drawing.
i’m always humming, and doing the mouth trumpet, and clicking and clapping out tunes all day. singing and scatting are some of my favorite pastimes. i can do all this but it’s not the same as playing an instrument. i feel like it can never quite extend past my fingertips; like i’m cranking out all this energy and excitement but it can’t go anywhere. it’s like not being able to get past the sketch when you have a whole painting inside you.
about three months ago, i finally picked up the accordion. i don’t know how to read music. my understanding of the technical side of music is pathetic, although i have a good natural sense for it, and now, a good teacher. i am scared.
i have all the usual beginner issues: my hands don’t know where to go, i’m not used to the weight of the instrument, and it feels alien in a way, just to name a few.
there’s another problem, too. i’m good at drawing.
everywhere i go, i see things i want to paint. i’m taking pictures of the pickled jalapeños and carrots at work because i want to study how they interact with the opaque black plastic container, all little dynamic shapes of green and orange swimming in vinegar. i’m watching a cat stretch and yawn on the concrete and lay down in a sunbeam that looks too heavenly to be real - it gives me an idea for a sketch.
i look at the arms of the man loading hay bales with me, and try to commit to memory how the muscles move under the skin, what foot he puts his weight on, how he wipes his forehead and shifts his weight. it makes me want to draw pages of people doing mundane things, studying how weight and action and stylization works together to create something satisfying and alive. i want to do the beauty of the universe justice.
when i open procreate to draw, i am not thinking of anything. my hands know where to go, i don’t even have to look at the buttons or tools to know what i’m doing, and all these complicated layers interacting with each other and their applied effects and backgrounds etc come like second nature to me now.
the first day i used procreate, i was so overwhelmed, i was afraid to touch anything.
the first day i held an accordion, it was the same.
my problem is that i know how to look at art and examine why techniques work or not, and i don’t quite have those skills when it comes to music. sure, i can slap beautiful harmony onto any song, but heck if i know what notes they are. i couldn’t tell you what key the song is in or what defines a measure.
and i realized that while now i am looking through this frosted glass trying to make out the basic shapes behind it, one day, i will be able to peel back the mystery and truly understand not only how this instrument functions, but how music flows, too. because i see art in everything. i understand the weight of people and objects and how they would interact in a cartoon. the colors of a blooming cactus in my yard become lemony saturated in the early light and pale and dusty in the late evening. i can see the line of action in characters and better understand the composition behind paintings, and why it works.
it’s my hope, that as time spent with my accordion goes on, i will start to see music in everything, too. there’s nothing i want more than to understand it and speak its language as i do with art. i want to someday pick up my accordion and make up a melody as i would sketch out a doodle. this is the kind of stuff i think about all day.

Note
(oh HECK yeah I was actually planning that haha)
The mermaid beams as she sees his reaction.
“Gosh…” she runs a hand through her hair, thinking back. “Well, I’ve been collecting for as long as I can remember, but I started this collection when I left the other kingdom I used to live in with my parents. The one ruled by Margygr. I took a few of my favorites from my old collection and swam all the way here with them. I figured this grotto would be a good place to stay. I was 14 at the time… so… about five-ish years ago?”
“Hourglass…” the princess says with wonder, looking through it. “Amazing…”
“They do! The hair brushes you showed me are a LOT easier to use though.” She giggles.
Melodía nods. “Yeah. I wouldn’t want to take them out of their home.” Gently, she places it back on the rock, smiling at the little people.
She then perks up. “Oh! I almost forgot to show you!” The girl takes his hands and leads him to another part of the grotto. This part seemed to be its own special little spot. On the ledges, were perched multiple items, many of them looking strangely familiar. Blushing a bit, she explains.
“So um… these things all used to be yours.” Swimming to one of the ledges, she takes a small knife and brings it to him. “This was the first one I ever collected of yours. In the cove that day.”
The mermaid then shows him different things one by one. “Here’s some pieces of the flight suit you were tangled up in, when I saved you. Oh- here’s one of your prosthetic legs.” She chuckles, handing it to him. Among some of the other things were a charcoal pencil, a bola, an old fur vest, A basket used to carry fish, one of the very first prosthetic fins Hiccup had made, and some of Toothless’ scales.
After Melodía had moved some of the items, a slab of rock falls down from one of the ledges and onto the sea floor. On the rock, there’s tons of sketches of Hiccup and Toothless over the years, from when Hiccup was 15 to recently. She had drawn the moment with Hiccup’s hand on Toothless’s snout in the center of it all. Immediately she grabs it, fumbling over herself as she tries to hide it behind Toothless’ old tailfin. Her face is bright pink as she just stares at the sand, her hands over her face as she curls up in herself, just floating there.
The image of the mermaid Melodía drew the day they met flashed in his mind. "Margygr...right, she-- you drew her with the crown, right?"
As Melodía placed the figurine back on the shelf, Hiccup's eyes were on her.
He decided then and there that he would make her one out of wood, to keep on land.
But...with a few modifications...
"Hm?"
As she brought him to a different section, he tilted his head, recognizing a few of the objects. "Wait...is that...?"
Taking the small knife in his hands, he knew exactly what day she was talking about. It was when he tossed it into the water, showing Toothless he meant no harm...
Looking over the rest of the items, his jaw had dropped open slightly. "Oh my gosh, I...I always wondered where it all went, I just... assumed it was lost to the sea..."
He was a little stunned, but touched that she'd kept all of these things through the years.
The prosthetic was one of the first...he lost it when he crash landed with Toothless as he tried to get used to flying with it. The dragon let him sit on his back and carried him home that day...
Hands now full, he jumped on the water slightly as the slab of rock fell. Once the sand cleared, his eyes widened as he saw the drawings depicted in its surface.
He wanted to get a closer look, but Melodía had already lifted it and put it behind the other items.
Gently setting the items in his hands down on the shelf, he swam closer to her, placing his hands over her own, gently moving them away from her face. "It's nothing to be ashamed of, Milady..."
Smiling warmly at her, he pulled her into a hug.
Others may have found it weird, or strange, but to Hiccup? It was thoughtful, kind. She saw something in him when no one else did.
Pulling away, he met her gaze. "If you think I'd be upset over a few drawings, well...you got another thing coming!" He grinned. "Have I told you how talented you are at art? Because it's true, you are. And... seeing this..." He gestured to the things that used to be his, "just makes me wish we'd met sooner. Imagine the fun we would've had!"

A few months ago, fellow fandom dweller and fic writer @silvernightwalker decided to organize a fan book project with the hopes of giving it to DT at a local con, but due to certain circumstances, the panel and meetup got canceled. But that project was still such a blast to contribute in, heck I even got the chance to help make a simple portrait artwork for the cover!
(This is a rather long post so I’ll cut it here, but the full version contains quick rundown of my process and trials, as well as full credits for those who helped make this thing real!)
So what exactly did we do? Well a portrait is simple enough, seeing the tight deadline we had if we wanted the book to arrive in time for the con. Since the book itself contains so much wonderful art by so many artists, having something that shows many illustrated variations of the actor himself made sense, and again seeing as we were a couple of artists working on this assured we wouldn’t surpass the deadline. So after a bit of rummaging in the GO Reference Library we managed to Frankenstein an image that fitted our theme and then we could actually start making our portraits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I started by thinking I should do a normal digital painting, but seeing how most of our team was doing that, I thought, "Why not do it traditionally instead? It's been a while since I've painted with acrylics."
I immediately regretted that, as I there was only a few days left and I hadn't even started my final submission. So plan C it was.
Finally seeing as everyone was drawing the reference picture in their unique style, I decide I would invoke my learnings from doing way too many Professor Layton crossover art and draw DT in a fun stylized way, with nice chunky lineart and include nods to some of his roles that really stuck with me (A.J. Crowley, the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctor and a seemingly well hidden Scrooge McDuck from Ducktails, since that's probably the first role of his I've got to see in action). And then I let the colours really take the show by at first limiting my palette to then painting it a little in greyscale.
(Here’s what the lineart, and rough sketch and colour composition look like!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the taa-da! The end results!

Links to everyone who helped make this cover!
Go check out the other artist who worked on the cover and their wonderful rendition of DT!
And make sure to check out our fantastic event organizers, we wouldn’t be able to do all of this without them!
Project organizer and book giving aficionado: https://www.tumblr.com/silvernightwalker
Layout designs and cover design as well as second but not least event organizer: https://www.tumblr.com/carnival-of-vanity
Give them lots of love to them for me, will ya?
(Also for those who are eagle eyed, yes I did only just refer to David Tennant as DT in the whole post and yes that is because I botched his last name in the book, I’m an artist not a writer)

Alright alright, I can’t seem to go to sleep quite just yet So I’ll toss out some older but still equally as quickly made as most sketched up ideas of mine (And quick they are for sure lol, don’t mind the fact that the test lighting on the armor makes 0 sense, I was just trying to see what it’d look like if I did more than just the flat color) So ye, I made these a while ago, just to see what kinds of colors would be fitting for the characters - mainly I had no idea on how to manage the Golden Elite Soldier. I was pretty determined on making something for all the soldiers we fight in Dread, but I just couldn’t nail a good design for that one in specific. So I made this to try and work out a few ideas. Bro it was hard xD I can never say that the result would be perfect, can’t get my thoughts down like I’d want to, but managing something at least ok enough is pretty aight and will do for now But accompanying our Golden gal is the other Elite Soldier - that is mostly based on my personal headcanon of there being (at least) 2 of them. A lot less struggling with this one, I wonder why xD (It’s the markings, there’s little to none and) Honestly though yeah my main idea here was just that they’re really dark in color so... Bam, done and I’m happy with it I won’t be saying a lot but I can share a few words about each to those interested. Will (try and fail to) keep it brief though to not spoil anything. Just some overall stuff (lol, I am sleepy and write a lot, but ya’ll like reading stuff, yes? No harm done I hope)
Gilded Helm - She/They - Based on the Golden Elite Soldier you fight in Hanubia Design inspirations vaguely from the Yellow-headed Blackbird & Bearded Vulture (I wish I could have done more of either or but this is what we have x2 Perhaps I’ll make 1 more revision later to bring out more of one or the other) Size-wise I like to lovingly refer to her as ‘tall as heck’. Yeah after Raven Beak she’s the tallest Mawkin we see (still easily more than a head shorter though), but rank isn’t based on height of course! She’s more than capable of besting just about any of the regular soldiers in combat, you don’t need to test her (it’s unlikely you’d get a reaction out of her either. She’d just look down, at most make an expression that spells out ‘Really?’, and go on with her day without commenting further - and to some that might hurt more than getting hit physically). Her main strengths are in being the more defensively oriented one of the 2 Elite Soldiers, but that doesn’t mean she’s any less capable on the offensive side. Gilded Helm isn’t that chatty, work comes first and foremost and she’s always got a lot of things to attend to. If Raven Beak is busy she’s the one that oversees things and keeps them running. She doesn’t necessarily rule over anyone, but if she sees fit to do something she’s pretty much got the free allowance of doing so, extra permissions not required. She does have 2 apprentices who help her out with keeping things running (although one of them is occasionally the cause of a handful of reports - or perhaps both, since while one causes trouble the other is very likely to over report on any and all happenings they spot) - but I’ll write more on the two individually later! Still, it’s not an uncommon sight to see at least one of the two trailing closely behind Gilded while she’s doing her things. They may not be perfect, and she may not be the most expressive of all Chozo around, but she does care dearly for her two (absolutely dum) apprentices ~~~~~~~~~ Proud Gambit - He/Him - Based on the Soldier you fight in Elun Design based mostly on the Great-tailed Grackle And his size is also listed as ‘pretty dang tall’ He takes the role of the more offensive of the Elite Soldiers, having expertise when it comes to pretty much any weapon and hand-to-hand combat. Also he just knows where to hit, simply put, it doesn’t matter if you’re good or not if you don’t know how to use those skills - so rest assured he’s capable of slaying a Corpius with just a tree branch - or even without one. Proud's skills and knowledge are the result of a lot of training and practice. He’s hardworking and sees it only natural that he puts the long lifespan of the Chozo to good use. He's determined to learning whatever he can and a lot of other Mawkin admire or at least respect him for that Though, in the grand scale of all of Chozo timeline, he's been promoted rather recently. It's been years by now, but it still doesn't feel like that long of a time. Regardless, he makes sure to keep his skills honed and at their peak, continuing to study and experiment with new things when there’s time for that. Combat capabilities aside though, Proud Gambit is a rather pleasant fella to be around. He’s supportive, friendly and open-minded. Dude loves watching others learn and be their best selves. Despite his high rank he doesn’t mind holding casual conversations with just about anyone. He’s does make sure the Mawkin follow rules and don’t start stuff & he respects the rules and that they’re followed, but he’s much more loose on that than Gilded is. Yes he can and will be serious and you’re better off not messing around, but if he sees you doing something you shouldn’t be doing he’ll usually remark on it playfully first. You let out the Armadiggers on accident and now the whole west-wing armory is a complete mess? Boy oh boy looks like we just got a new janitor promoted, congratulations! Depending on the situation he may even help with the cleanup - or if you deserve to learn from the lesson he’ll make it deliberately harder on you. Proud is the one that knows a bit more about the rest of the soldiers on a more personal level, so if there’s things to know he probably has at least a vague idea of it. Proud doesn’t have any apprentices of his own and doesn’t seek for one either. He prefers to have time for everyone and anyone who needs it. Besides, while it would be good to have someone watching his back, he prefers to not have to worry about another fighter when in combat. He’s much more forgiving when it comes to others, but for him himself to make a mistake like letting someone get to his blindside in the first place would be unforgivable. If he is to be the pinnacle of combat capabilities then he better live up to his rank. Also as nice as he is, if he slices off your arm during a fight he won’t apologize for it later. You should instead be pretty honored and taken by the fact that he considered you a threat enough to make such a maneuver in the first place

As promised, I finally finished all my RVB pin-ups! (these are honestly pretty tame, mostly just cutesy poses and anatomy practice. I’m putting the full image under a cut below). I spent a couple of weeks drawing these, sometimes trying multiple poses until finally they looked right, and then I had to travel to scan the pictures... and the scanner was really wonky. It washed out certain colors, while over-saturating others. It was just really weird. So, the only solution was to try to edit and fix the scanned images on my computer, and since I only have MS Paint with no layers, this was a challenge. I basically had to add the colors, then go over my lines so they would be clear, and finally erase around the edges. It took another few days to fix them all, but I did it!
Here is Agent Tex~
Tumblr media
When I thought about what kinda pose I wanted for Tex, I knew she had to be FLEXING, obviously. For the rest of the body, I used reference for some drawings I did many years ago in a Human Figure class, with models who posed while we sketched. I always liked the way this one sketch I did showed the line in the back follow all the way down the leg, so I elaborated on this for Tex. I really wanted something to show the full body, and standing up so you get the feel for how imposing/intimidating she is. I think she’d approve~
Like Church, I imagined a scenario in which she gets to return in a synthetic human body, hers being based on the DNA of Allison (rather than turning out identical, they simply share similarities). Ironically, Tex looks more like Carolina than Allison did (I like to think Carolina takes after a great-grandmother on her mom’s side, and Tex just kinda wound up inheriting those traits in her new body, too). Tex is very TALL, and once she was able to, she was determined to get BUFF. Tex is a built like a brick house, heck yeah!

Declawing the Cat- Chapter 1
He just couldn’t figure her out. No matter how many times he’s tried to wrap his head around it, Felix Graham de Vanily couldn’t solve the mystery of Marinette Dupain-Chang; not why she did the things she did, or how, or why she seemed to infuriate him to no end…
It had all started when his brick head of a cousin had the bright idea to convince his mother to transfer him to his school. The two of them had recently moved closer to the Agreste household for more “family solidarity”, but it seemed as though Adrien needed even more quality time with cousin dear.
“Are you sure this is a good idea, Adrien? You know Felix isn’t the most social child. Do you really think that your classmates will welcome him as you say they will, even after the incident?”
“I’m positive, Aunt Amilie. The kids in my class are very kind and believe in redeeming others if they apologize. I have no doubt in my mind that they’ll forgive him. I mean, look at how they accepted me when I first started going there. They could have shunned me and thrown me aside like trash, but now I have a lot of friends. The same will happen with Felix, for sure.”
“Well, if you really think so, then it's a beautiful idea,” said Amilie avidly. “What about you, gabriel? Do you think that our sons should go to school together?”
“It will be beneficial for Adrien to have a good influence around the school with him to make sure that he doesn’t try to rebel and become like his… recalcitrant peers,” said gabriel without glancing up from his designs.
“And you, Felix? Do you want to go to College Francoise-Dupont?”
Felix gulped. He didn’t really want to go to school with his ridiculous cousin, but his mother really seemed to like the idea, and he’d hate to disappoint her ...
So that’s how Felix ended up going to school with the same kids he duped. Even though Adrien can be way too gullible (someone really needs to tell him that life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows and not everyone can be trusted), Felix soon found that he was indeed right about his friends. When he arrived there a few weeks ago, it only took a small smile and a half-baked apology to get them to trust him. One might think that Felix would be sulking at the mere thought of going to school with these losers, but he had decided beforehand that if he was going to have any fun at this school, he was going to have to toy with this naive group of teenagers to cause some trouble, and what better way to do that than to make them think he was on their side?
“Guys, this is my cousin Felix. He’s going to be attending school with us for now on. I know you guys will take him in with open arms.”
Kim cut in. “Is this the same cousin that pretended to be you and replied to the videos you sent us?”
Nino had something to say as well. “Why should we trust anything he has to say? He hasn’t exactly given us any reason to like him.”
“Yeah, how can you expect us to just become friends with us after what he did? He’s a liar!” Alya declared.
The rest of the class chimed in with arguments of their own, and who can blame them? It definitely didn’t feel good to be deceived. Soon, the whole courtyard was filled with angry yells and upset students. Adrien, bless him, was trying his best to calm them down and explain.
“Well-”
Felix cleared his throat. Talking ceased and all eyes were on him: Adrien’s glancing nervously, and the others’ full-on glares.
“Hello, everyone. As Adrien just told you, my name is Felix Graham de Vanily. To answer your question, Mr. Le Chein, yes, I’m the cousin of Adrien’s that impersonated him and sent you a cruel response to your heartfelt videos. For that, I am deeply sorry. I have no excuse for what I did. I can only hope that you all will find it in your hearts to forgive me for my terrible sin.”
You could hear a pin drop. All of the students were giving each other and Felix calculating looks. Should they believe him? Was he really telling the truth? After a few beats of deafening silence, Mylene spoke up.
“If you’re really sorry...”
“Oh, I am, you can be sure of that, Ms. Haprele,” Felix nodded, puppy eyes fully on show.
“Then… I suppose everyone deserves a second chance, right guys?” she continued, looking around at the others.
Slowly, the rest of the group started nodding their heads. Where there was anger and hurt towards Felix was now acceptance and forgiveness. Why not forgive him? Of course he was telling the truth! Why on Earth would someone lie to gain our trust only to be able to play us for fools right underneath our noses? It’s not like it’s ever happened before. Oh, if only Lila was here to greet our new friend! It’s too bad she’s away in America doing her internship at NASA!
The group, who were once resentful and angry at the fancily-dressed boy that was in front of them, began to crowd around him, smiles and name introductions all around. By the way they were acting, you would have thought that they all have been friendly with Felix since birth. Amazing what the power of deception held when used right.
He recognized most of them from the terrible videos they had sent Adrien: the manic pixie girl, the ultra-nerd, the stupid jock, the wannabe dj and his amautur reporter girlfriend.
And what a reporter she was! Neither she nor her dim-witted friends could see through his act. They followed him like lost puppies looking for an owner. The only person who didn’t seem to believe him was her. Felix didn’t see her in the schoolyard for his “apology”, and he noticed she never seemed to be around if he’s in the room.
Honestly, he’d thought that Marinette would have been the easiest person to convince. Only a silly, pigtail-twirling, school girl would send such a pathetic confession. “AdRiEn, I LoVe YoU. I’Ll AlWaYs Be ThErE If YoU NeEd Me”. Puh-lease.
But she never seemed to be around, Felix didn’t see her in the schoolyard for his “apology”, and he noticed she never seemed to be around unless they were in class. He sat in the back, and spent most of his time conjuring up plans to recruit her, for after a few days of observations, he’d been able to work out that he had underestimated her. By a lot. Felix found out that she was class president and a good one at that. She was seen as a leader by the others, but it didn’t seem like she used deception to earn that respect. She was actually kind-hearted, selfless, and true. If she wasn’t so annoying and stubborn, those characteristics might have even been...admirable. She really could be a great ally to have by his side. But by jove, was she ever making it difficult. Eventually, he’s been able to talk to her alone. To sum it up, it definitely could have gone better.
During lunch hour, Marinette was on a bench in the park. She was sketching on a notepad, most likely designs for a new sewing project. Felix learned from Adrien that Marinette was a very talented aspiring designer, which took Felix by surprise. You’d never guess that this girl was into fashion by the way she dressed (Felix could not stress enough how atrocious those pigtails were), but he digresses. He isn’t here to insult Marinette’s clothes, though he could do so some other time. He took a deep breath and strode over to Marinette’s seat.
“Ah, Ms. Dupain-Cheng! How lovely it is to see you. We never seem to talk, do we? It is quite a shame really.”
Marinette didn’t move a muscle. It was as though he hadn’t said a word! Ok, well, give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she’s really focused on her drawing?
“I must say, that is a lovely suit that is a lovely suit you’re designing there. I love the use of gold thread on the pants. If I may make a few suggestions-”
“No, you may not. As a matter of fact, I’m going to stop you right there. Don’t say another word.”
“I-I beg your pardon?”
“You heard me.” Marinette set her notepad aside on the bench and rose up from the bench to look him in the eye . Never in his life had Felix seen a stronger glare, and even though he was a good head taller than Marinette, he felt as though she could crush him like a grape. Of course, he didn’t let it show. What would it say about him that he shakes like a kitten in the presence of a 4’ 11” teenage girl?
“Now Felix, I’m only going to say this once, so listen up. I know you have everyone else fooled with your nice act, but I’m not as stupid as you seem to assume. You think you’re the first fake I came across? Don’t make me laugh; you’re not even close. Heck, next to Lila, you’re just a petty gossip. The rest of our classmates seem to have put the video incident in the past, but let me make it crystal clear that it is still fresh in my mind. I meant to share something extremely personal with Adrien, we all did, and you screwed that up. You hurt all of us carelessly as if our feelings were nothing more than spinning tops. You know what that makes you?”
Dumbfounded, Felix couldn’t do much more than shake his head.
“It makes you a little bitch. And I don’t associate with little bitches. So unless you can prove to me that you really are turning over a new leaf for good, I don’t want to say one word to you unless absolutely necessary and vise versa. I’ll stay out of your hair, and you WILL stay out of mine. Capisce?
Without waiting for a reply, Marinette turned her heel, grabbed her notebook, and began the walk back to school.
Well, he must admit that Marinette won that round. She certainly was a challenge, but luckily, for Felix liked puzzles. He was going to get Mari to like him, even if it took every ounce of strength and scheming he had in his body.

a short human au kam oneshot ✨
I wrote this at like 3am a while ago so I apologize if it’s not the best lol
without further adooo here’s my shitty attempt at writing fanfic XD
— —————- ———
Keefe let out a dramatic sigh as he flopped back onto his bed. He tossed the book he was reading aside because if he had to read Shakespeare for one more second his brain might, quite literally, explode. He was bored and Tam was here, so he might as well move on from homework to annoying his best friend.
“Taaaaammmm” Keefe sighed, kicking Tam’s leg lightly, “Pay attention to meee.”
Tam looked up from his book and tilted his head, “Aren’t you old enough to entertain yourself?”
Keefe threw a pillow at him, but Tam caught it and threw it back, hitting Keefe in the face.
“Well that backfired.” Keefe mumbled while rubbing his face. Tam laughed and set his homework aside. He pulled a leg up to his chest and rested his head on Keefe’s knee,
“Sorry.”
“No you’re not.” Keefe said, ignoring the backflips his stomach was doing.
“You’re right, I’m not, that was hilarious.”
Keefe moved his knee causing Tam’s head to fall.
“Rude,” Tam said, glaring at him.
Keefe laughed, as Tam got off the bed and walked over to Keefe’s dresser. This was their relationship. They laughed and semi flirted but neither of them were brave enough to make the first move. He also didn’t even know if Tam w anted to make a move. Could he be imaging all the flirting? Maybe Tam was like this everyone.
He shook his head and returned his focus to Tam who was now messing with the bottle of black nail polish on the dresser.
“Can you do mine later?” He asked, “It would drive my parents crazy.”
Keefe got up and walked over to him,
“Yeah sure. It drives mine crazy too,” he said with a sad laugh.
Tam laughed too and set the bottle down.
It was safe to say their parents weren’t the best. They were horrible actually. Keefe couldn’t count how many times he’s come home from school to be the subject of his Father’s anger. Whether it was screaming, or throwing things, or the occasional trip to Keefe’s bedroom to destroy Keefe’s sketches, Keefe couldn’t do anything. His mom wasn’t much better. She just stood by and let it all happen, occasionally adding to his list of ‘things to hate myself for’. They fought all the time. He couldn’t remember a day where there wasn’t screaming of some sort. To top it all off they were homophobic. Keefe hated it. He hated it here. He knew Tam’s home life wasn’t much better either, and he hated that. He hated that Tam had to deal with this. No one should. They’d talked about it before, once they even cried because they were so tired of it. They’d talked about running away, but Tam said he couldn’t leave Linh. Keefe had said she could come with them but then Tam said that Linh would never want to leave Marella and Biana. So they decided to wait until they’re eighteen. Then they’d all leave together. They’d move as far away from them as possible and never look back. Keefe couldn’t wait.
He watched Tam pick up one of Keefe’s rings and fiddle with it. Keefe couldn’t take his eyes off him. The sun was about to set and the light was peeking through his window, casting a warm glow over the entire room. Tam looked like he was glowing. He looked beautiful. He always did. He’d never actually tell him that though. He wished he could..he wished he could tell him a lot of things.
Tam set down his ring and turned to Keefe, catching him staring, “What?”
Keefe blushed lightly, “N-nothing.”
“You were staring at me.”
“No-No I wasn’t-“ he stuttered.
Tam raised his eyebrow.
“Hey you knocked over my nail polish,” Keefe said, subtly changing the subject. He reached behind Tam to fix it, but then he looked down to find Tam staring up at him. Keefe’s stomach dropped. They stayed like that for a while, both of them staring at each other, and neither of them moving. It was almost as if they were scared to. Like moving might break the delicate trance that they seemed to be in.
At some point Keefe’s eyes moved down to Tam’s lips. He could’ve sworn Tam started move towards him then, but before he could know for sure a door slammed downstairs.
They both flinched at the noise and quickly leapt apart.
Seconds after the slam, the arguing started. The loud arguing that usually lasted for hours at a time, which could only mean one thing.
His parents were home.
Keefe scratched the back of his head,
”So....”
Tam shoved his hands in his pockets,
“So...I don’t have to be home for a couple of hours...wanna go get coffee or something?”
Keefe could’ve kissed him. He really wanted to actually.
He let out a big breath and whispered, “Yes please.”
Tam smiled, “Ok, just let me get my stuff.”
He started putting his books in his backpack while Keefe got a sweatshirt and pulled it on over his school uniform dress shirt. He grabbed another sweatshirt and turned to Tam,
“Wanna wear this?” When Tam started to get flustered he quickly clarified, “Its getting cold out, you might need it-“
Tam took it and quickly thanked him, and pulled it on over his uniform as well. He put on his backpack and started walking towards Keefe’s door before Keefe stopped him,
”Yeah no, we’re going out the fun way.”
It was also the way that avoided running into his parents downstairs cause he...really didn’t need that right now. He took Tam’s arm lightly and lead him over to the window,
”Oh come on.” Tam sighed.
“Where’s your sense of adventure Tammy boy?”
”I must have lost it somewhere.”
Keefe flicked his bangs, and then out the window they went.
—————————
“Ok but that was the best cookie ever, I can’t believe they just gave it to us for free.”
Tam said as they walked back to Keefe’s house from the coffee shop they ended up going to. The sun had set now and it was dusk. Keefe loved this time of day, when everything was still and quiet and beautiful.
Keefe laughed, “They probably gave it to us because I’m so attractive.”
Tam blinked, “That literally makes no sense whatsoever. “
Keefe smirked, “I don’t hear you disagreeing.”
Tam shoved him with his arm.
“You’re so annoying.”
”You love me.”
”That’s debatable.”
Keefe clutched his heart, “You’ve wounded me. I don’t know how I’ll ever emotionally recover from this.”
Tam rolled his eyes, fighting back a smile.
Keefe knew Tam loved him, platonically if not anything more. He wished it was more, since Keefe had been falling in love with him since the 8th grade. He could never say that though, since he still wasn’t sure how Tam felt. He might never be sure...
They walked for a few more minutes before stopping in front of Keefe’s house.
He looked at Tam and found him already staring at Keefe. He held his gaze and whispered, “Here we are.”
“Here we are.” Tam took a small step towards Keefe, “I should probably head home now...”
Keefe’s heart was in his throat. What was happening right now?
”Probably...”
Tam looked down at their hands and Keefe gathered all the courage he had and started slowly reaching towards Tam’s hand. Their fingers barely brushed before Tam intertwined them. Keefe couldn’t believe this was real. Was this real? If it was dream it was a hell of a good one. He’s liked this guy for years and now it finally happening-how was this happening-?
His voice was hoarse as he whispered, “You know we’re holding hands right now right?”
”Yeah I noticed.”
”And you’re...ok with that..?”
”I’m more then ok with it.” Tam’s grip on his hand tightened slightly, and Keefe almost passed out. No way this was happening. No way he was holding hands with dude he’s like since he was fourteen.
”Keefe..” Tam whispered, interrupting his thoughts.
”Yeah...?”
Tam took a small step towards Keefe, and moved his hands to his face, slowly moving it down to his. He paused, his voice so soft Keefe could barely hear it, “Can I....”
Keefe answered him by connecting their lips. The kiss was slow and everything he’d ever imagined it would be, and more. He never wanted it to end, but it did. They broke the kiss and Keefe leaned his forehead against Tam’s lightly.
“Did that actually just happen...” he whispered.
Tam laughed softly, “Yeah, it did...”
Tam then pulled Keefe into a hug, holding him so tight he thought he might break something. He didn’t mind one bit, and he held him back just as tight.
They stayed like that for a while before Tam whispered the words Keefe thought he’d only ever hear him say in his dreams.
”I like you Keefe. I have for a really long time..”
Keefe smiled bigger then he’d ever smiled in his entire life, “I like you too Tam..”
Tam leaned back from the hug to look at him, “Well I’d hope so since you just kissed me.”
Keefe laughed and after a few more minutes of talking (and maybe kissing) they said goodnight. Keefe watched Tam walk away and thought about what just happened. How did that just happen? He wasn’t sure, but he was sure as heck glad it did. Does this mean Tam was his boyfriend now? He’d work up the courage to ask him tomorrow. For now he went to bed and dreamed about a boy with silver bangs and soft hands.

“Your Daddy”
A self-indulgent Mickey Mouse fic that I just wrote on a whim. Based on a headcanon I made several months ago
//
1928
“ LES CLARK! GET IN HERE, NOW”
It has been a.... bizarre three years working for Walt Disney.
Back in 1925, when Les first joined Walt, he was truly expecting a temporary job, possibly washing cels and doing a couple drawings here and there. But what once was thought to be a temporary job turned into three years honing his craft under the careful mentorship and friendship of the great Ub Iwerks, someone Les heavily admired.
But that was not the bizarre part.
The bizarre part came in the form... of Julius the Cat.
When Les entered the studio on his very first day, the toon barreled straight into his gut in excitement at the prospect of meeting someone new. Les, not expecting the greeting, barely caught the doorframe in time to stop himself from falling from the sheer force that was Julius.
Rather than amusement from his new coworkers, he was met with sympathy. Making him realise that this was, indeed, a normal occurrence.
The only one who had looked mildly amused was Walt, who sent Les a sheepish smile as he (rather gently) pried Julius off of him and settled the toon against his hip.
“ Heh, sorry about that Les. Julius here gets rather excited at the prospect of newcomers”, he said motioning to the cat, who was cuddling up to Walt’s side.
Les had accepted the apology and was soon introduced to Ub, who after the introduction immediately moved to scold Julius, who looked sheepish and nervous under Ub’s gaze. The entire interaction between Julius and the two men confused Les until two words came out of the cat toon’s mouth.
“ Sorry Papa”
While he looked nonchalant on the outside, the words had hit Les like a freight train on the inside.
And thus began Les’ journey into the bizarre absurdity that was the Animation Industry.
Working under Disney led to Les learning a plethora of things, and some of them had less to do with actual animation and more to do with the toons. Sometimes while Ub was teaching him, the man would throw in advice on caring for toons. Any question Les had, Ub would answer and the man was incredibly blunt with his explanations.
“ So you’re Julius’ father?”
“ Yes”
“....But he calls Walt ‘Dad’”
“ It’s co-parenting”
And some answers were... weirder than others.
“ What do toons eat?”
“ Everything we eat and a little more”
“ What?”
“ Julius once ate an entire an entire paint can, filled with paint. Nearly sent me and Walt to an early grave, the little bugger. He didn’t get sick or anything, oddly enough he looked a lil’ healthier after that...”
“... So you let him eat paint now or-”
“ God lord no! We’re not taking chances in case he actually gets poisoned someday”
“ Oh”
“ Another tip, don’t ever let your toon eat erasers. That stuff will make them sick”
“....Noted”
Though it suffices to say, the years leading up to 1928 was an experience Les would never forget.
It was currently well past 11PM when Les entered Walt’s home, Lillian letting him in and calling for Walt, who was in his office, who then called Les to get to his office.
Les peeked inside to see Walt pacing from one side of the room to another. Sitting on a chair in the corner was Ub, holding something close to his chest as he tried to not doze off.
Both Ub and Walt looked like they haven’t slept in days.
Les lightly knocked on the door, announcing his presence.
Walt ceased his pacing,” Ah there you are, Les. Thanks for coming over”.
“ Well it sounded urgent. Couldn’t leave you two hangin’. What happened?”, Les asked concerned
“ We did it”, Walt sighed as he ran a hand down his tired face before looking to what Ub was holding.
Les’ eyes widened when the realisation of what had happened, finally noticing that what Ub was holding was definitely moving and shifting in the sleep-deprived man’s arms. Ub, noticing the attention from the standing men, shifted the being in his arms until Les could properly see him. In his mentor’s arms...
... was a sleepy small toon mouse.
“ When did you-?”
“ An hour ago”, Walt answered,” We made him an hour ago- but that’s not the point of you being here. Wait right here, I’ll be back”, with that said, Walt left the room to go further into the darkness of the house.
Les made his way over to his mentor’s side, dragging another chair closer to him and sat close by.
“ You okay, Ub?”, Les asked concerned.
“ I’m good”, Ub replied looking down on the toon in his arms,” Walt called me out of work to do this”, he moaned tiredly.
“ You were working?”, Les questioned.
“ I had extra work to do for Mintz because of planning with Walt”, Ub explained.
Les was well aware his mentor was working on things for Walt even while he continued to work for Universal. Ub was providing the money they needed to get the studio running while Walt and Roy went out, looking for new distributers after Winkler Pictures and Universal betrayed them.... and took Oswald away from them.
It was tragic watching everything unfold after Walt and Roy returned from their meeting with Mintz. After everyone just upped and left, leaving the four of them behind. Ub was in a fit of rage when he found out and what happened after that was the loudest, most rage-filled argument Les had ever heard between Walt and Ub. It had gone on for nearly a hour before things quieted down. But they didn’t leave the room they were in immediately, they were in there for a few minutes before finally coming out, eyes bloodshot and puffy despite vehement denies that they were crying. But it was clear as day that they were deeply hurt.
Les hoped to never ever have to go through what they went through.
“ What’s his name?”, Les inquired.
“ Michael Theodore Mouse. Mickey Mouse”, Ub stated with a nod,” It was Lillian’s suggestion after hearing Walt’s original name for him”.
“ And that was...?”
“ Mortimer”, Ub gagged.
Les snorted when he heard the name,” Bless Miss Lillian for stepping up where Walt failed in the naming department”, he joked humorously.
“ Amen to that”, Ub said with a short laugh as he looked down on the toon,” Hear that, Mickey. Your dad was going to name you Mortimer. What an unusual unneeded punishment, eh buddy”, he continued as Mickey smiled at Ub with sleepy eyes.
“ He’s very cute”, Les commented with a smile.
“ Of course he’s cute. I designed him after all”, Ub quipped with a smirk.
Les chuckled,” Of course”.
Ub smiled before looking down to Mickey again, this time his eyes filled with sadness. Les noticed this.
“ Thinking about Oswald again?”, Les asked.
“ Yeah. It’s just..... it’s been weeks since Mintz took him away and I haven’t seen him around the studio even while I was working. I’m worried about him and Julius”, Ub admitted,”.... I initially really didn’t want to do this”.
Les raised a brow,” What changed your mind?”.
“ Walt”, Ub said plainly,” We’ve been runnin’ around this for weeks now- well I was. You probably overheard me and Walt talking about this one night at the studio”.
Les nodded. He had overheard the conversation between Walt and Ub one evening when they were doing checks on the Hyperion studio. A mere two weeks before the current moment, Les recalled. It was far from an argument but there was definitely a disagreement. Ub wanted to wait a bit longer before creating another toon but Walt wanted it done sooner rather than later. The man even had a rough idea sketched out after seeing a mouse on the train  heading back to Burbank, Ub just had to create a proper design and then bring it to life. But to Ub it was moe complicated than that.
The man was exhausted, not just from overworking but from the very fact he had not JUST lost Oswald, but also Julius as well. And the guilt and sadness was eating him up from the inside. He was still wounded by the loss and Walt was not letting it heal like it was supposed to.
Not to say Walt wasn’t also facing his own major problems. He was also NOT coping well with losing Julius and Oswald (the latter especially) and his temper was much more explosive than usual from Les’ perspective. He threw himself into his work, dragging Roy everywhere to every film distribution company in the Los Angeles county. Heck, Les wagered Walt’s desperation might even have him go look for distributors in New York. And the man was constantly stressed out and judging by what Walt looked like earlier, even sleep deprived from working this much to avoid his own thoughts to grieve. You could say his desperation and grief was blinding him to his friend’s own grief.
Les winced at the thought, silently pitying his seniors.
Ub continued on speaking,” Distributors want to see the stars nowadays and not just concept art. They want to see and meet the toon and as charismatic as Walt is, he can’t convince them to wait any longer. So I bit the bullet tonight”, he explained, shifting Mickey as the toon squirmed a little in his arms,” But I’m don’t regret this. I feel a lil’ better after making lil Michael here. He’s just too darn active for me to ignore, isn’t that right buddy”, he said addressing Mickey, who was about ready to fall asleep again.
Les smiled at the sight of the toon,” Well I’m sure this one right here’s gonna be the one to boost us to success”, he said.
“ You think so?”, Ub inquired with a grin.
“ O ‘Course! After all, who could resist this cute little face?”, Les cooed at Mickey before turning to Ub,” AND you and Walt have already raised some pretty big stars. No doubt this little one will follow suit with his brothers”, he proclaimed confidently,” You two are gonna great dads.... again”, he joked lightly.
Ub chuckled,” And I’m sure you’ll be a fantastic dad too, Les”, he stated light-heartedly.
Les frowned, about to ask Ub what he meant before Walt peeked in, having returned from where he went off to.
“ Hey, sorry for the delay, she crawled out of the basket and I had to find her”, Walt explained nervously with a chuckle.
Les raised a brow at the mention of a her but Ub spoke up before he could ask
“ It’s fine. We were distracted with talking anyway. Bring her in already so Les can meet her”
Les was highly confused for a second before registering another toon mouse in Walt’s arms that was quickly transferred to his lap in seconds.
“ Les, meet Minnie, Minnie, this is Les Clark-”, and the next words will forever imprint itself in Les’ mind-
“ -Your Daddy”
“ Wait what?!”

Marinette felt bad she really did. But then again now the class wasn't her problem anymore and she felt joy. She prayed Chloe could keep the class together for a while. With a sigh, she walked up to her room to finish her packing. Her Maman was now busy calling Mr.Wayne  to ask about the arrangements. Dick said that if Bruce wasn’t ready she could stay with him at Bludhaven in the meantime.  Damian was texting her about the “rules”.
No mistreating his pets, Don’t try to become Graysons Favourite sibling  “because that spot is already filled”.  Don’t try to seperate Tim Drake from his Coffee, Cassandra Cain is dangerous but awesome  and Jason’s Existence was to not be mentioned outside of the manor.
What was even that family? Seriously she knew that they all had interesting backgrounds but Wasn't Jason Todd murdered by an Arkham Crazy a few years ago? Seriously that family sounded like a perfect base for a Buzzfeed Unsolved episode. Huh maybe her secretly being a superhero won't be the strangest thing in the family.
Marinette quickly packed her sketchbook and made sure to put the horse miraculous box into her purse. Master Fu was updated to an extent that she was going to be out of the country, out of continent really, for a few weeks.  Luckily she had Kalki to help with teleportation. She didn't have to panic about customs or anything. Mr.Wayne had a Private Plane. She’ll be flying over to Gotham with her parents and they'll be staying at a hotel for a few days. Get her “acclimated” to an American city and the customs. Paris will have to go without delicious sweets and treats for a few days.
Taking a final glance around the room Marinette was suddenly filled with a sense of homesickness. Didn't matter that she hadn't left, she didn’t even know when she'd come back. Sadly she had to leave some of her sewing and designing things. She had made sure to finish all of her commissions. However only a quick glance at her emails and her MDC website revealed that a lot of purchases and commission inquiries were being made. As soon as she gets to Gotham she will have to try a good fabric store and buy a new sewing machine and mannequin. She wasn’t a fool, she is definitely taking some of the expensive fabrics, Alexeis Fencing uniform was safely packed along with her saber.

With a final glance around she crawled down. And let the door shut with a final click.
Gotham City                                                                                                  U.S.A                                                                                                              2:30 pm
“Sabine Sabine Sa- Of course, Marinette can stay with me for a bit longer. Yes yes, Dick already told me the basics about the situation. Are you sure you don’t want me to get involved? You really should get the police involved. I don’t like bullies or liars.” Bruce stated. Seriously Bruce was really tempted to fly over to Paris and press charges against those little demons. Heck, he wants to press charges against the foolish teacher and idiotic principle.
“Bruce calm down, trust me I will handle the school and the bullies, right now I want to get Marinette away from them” Sabine stated with a growing smirk. Oh, don’t mess with her.  Bustier and Damocles are going down. However, she had to be a little patient and play the long game. She knew Marinette wanted to handle her classmates.
“Fine don’t worry about it,  what are you two planning to do about school?” he asked, a bit concerned. Seriously another one of his kids was getting bullied and harassed.
Bruce was having flashbacks to the bullying and harassment Dick and Jason went through when they went to school.  Dick dealt with months of being called things like gypsy trash, charity cases, and circus brat before he finally built up the courage and told Bruce. Jason on the other hand, Bruce found out really quickly about his bullying. Mostly because Jason would get into fights. Tim didn't deal with bullying that bad, sure he got called a nerd and orphan trash but Bruce handled that very quickly because by then he was an expert. Bruce wasn't willing to put Cassandra through school. No one dared bully Damian Al Ghul Wayne.
“We actually haven’t thought that far,” Sabine admitted sheepishly. “But we have the necessary paperwork prepared”
“Why not enroll her in Gotham Academy along with Damian?” Bruce suggested
“It's a private academy, the tuition is in the 30,000’s” Sabine suggested exasperatedly.
“You’re kidding right?”
“I’m just saying I don’t think Marinette would be comfortable with going to a school like that.”
“She went to school with a Model, The Mayor's Daughter, and a comic book artist”
“Bruce!”
“I’m just saying Gotham Academy has already been the school where all of my older kids have attended, plus it has the best security due to the fact that I funded it.” Yes, Bruce was an overprotective parent. Sue him.
With a sigh Sabine couldn’t help but give in she was also an overprotective parent. “Fine but You’ll be the one to deal with her freakout over the costs”
“Deal”
Orly Airport                                                                                                    Paris, France                                                                                                5:00 pm
With a quick hop, Marinette couldn’t help but gape at the private jet with the blaring WAYNE INDUSTRIES on the side. Once they were inside they made sure to get comfortable. It was going to be at least an 8-hour flight. Marinette took out her sketchbook and quickly sketched out a few new future designs. however, she took a quick glance at her parents and saw that her mother had dozed off on her father's shoulder. She quickly flipped a page that revealed a few ideas for an altered ladybug outfit. She needed a redesigned outfit.  No more skin-tight suits or pigtails. She's doing a loose outfit and braids, being a superhero with loose hair was plain impractical.
Seriously there is a reason why all superheroes either have short hair or have their hair tied back.  With a few final touches, she was done with the redesign, now all that was left was to show Tikki the new design. That's another worry for Marinette.  Finding time to talk with Tikki was easy enough to do with her parents. They were bakers who had to wake up early so they usually went to sleep really quickly and early plus she was also an only child, which made it easy for Marinette to slip away for her Ladybug nightly adventures and talk with Tikki. How is she gonna manage that in a house filled with a bunch of people?
Marinette flipped to another page and decided to start sketching a new dress design. She’s curious about what type of colors she wants to use. Maybe Marinette should make it all black? No, too dark. Maybe a few touches of blue? Nah. Red? Nope, she has enough red clothing. Purple? Yuck. Red and Green? Nope, she doesn't want to look like a traffic light. Gold!! Black and gold would be perfect!! Cape? Wait no, Edna Mode the animated icon made a good point on why capes should be banned.
Taking a quick glance around she finally risked taking a peak on Tikki. Tikki was comfortable situated and munching on a bunch of sweets. Marinette softly closed the purse and decided that sleep was the perfect course of action. Wrapping her sweater around herself she allowed the warmth and darkness to overtake her.
Cesaire Apartment Paris, France 7:30pm
“Okay listen up gang since Marinette abruptly dropped out, it’s up to us to raise the money for the school dance and the end of the year field trip which is a few months away,” Alya said.
Lila was quick to point out how horrible and awful it was for Marinette to leave them with all the work.
Alya couldn’t help but notice that only a few people showed up to the meeting. Noticeably absent was Chloe, Juleka, Sabrina, Max (who said Markov needed a reboot or something) and Ivan. Alya couldn’t help but be concerned by the absences. They needed their help to get all the planning ready and everything.
Rose was squealing at a thought of being able to decide on planning the theme of the dance. “Oooohhhh I can’t wait for the dance, do you think Marinette would still make me a dress?” Rose asked while glancing around. Sudden realization seems to hit them all. This year they will most likely have to pay and buy their own dresses and suits. Marinette always made them their outfits and that was part of the reason that they became the talk of the school after a dance. They always looked stunning.
“Rose Marinette wouldn’t dare not make you a dress, you’re one of the sweetest girls in the school if she refuses to make you one then she is Heartless” Lila stated fervently. Oh, Lila was making sure to get her claws completely in the class, she didn’t have an obstacle anymore.
“Lilas right, Marinette would always help you no matter how mad she is at you.” Adrien chimed in. All of a sudden their phones started pinging. Adrien quickly took out his and gaped at what he was reading in the class group chat.

Wiggle’s Muse - Short Excerpt turned into a FanFic
Yo, so, I wanted to share a small snippet of a future project I’m working on (while also delaying my current art projects). What I’ve written out here in this post was originally in a format not meant for professional writing purposes, but I said “eh, why the hell not,” and written it out in sort of a short fanfic format for you guys to read. This project btw, is not a fanfic (had to make that clear). What I am working on is a very large scale project for myself and is still in the blocking out/rough draft phases. This right here is probably my most fleshed out scene I’ve written out, and feels pretty complete as it’s own thing. Honestly, I’d appreciate the feedback if any of ya’ll found this interesting!
Also I’m putting this in a tumblr post because I don’t have an AO3 or fanfiction account, and this is already too short for it anyway. Read the excerpt below
In front of the camera lenses, multiple grumpuses walk back and forth discussing a matter of topics but most importantly, where was Wiggle?
"Has anyone gotten ahold of Wiggle yet? She was supposed to be here hours ago,” a gruff voice coming from out of frame says. “We’ve tried calling her for over an hour, but we got nothing,” says another off camera, “do you think we should reschedule-” before they could finish, the studio doors bust open with a loud thud echoing the studio room. A tall, short armed grumpus with a boa stumbles along the room carrying an oddly shaped banjo.
“There she is,” said the gruff voiced grump, “Wiggle, whatever you got going on, you better do it now cause we got a meeting with investors in half an hour!” From the blurry view of a slightly out of frame Wiggle, she barely registered what the grump said. In a stumble, she walks to the center of the camera’s view & shakes her head, almost slurring her words, “Doooon’t worry, Darling, we’ll get you a new vest later.” “What, no, wait, that’s not what I-” before another word could be said, Wiggle readies her banjo and strikes a quick pose before strumming the strings like her life depended on it.
It didn’t take longer than a few seconds before the crew sprung into action, setting the proper lightning, mics and cameras around her. Her rhythm and measures became a lot more stable, catchy even, and then she broke into song. The next set of lyrics would become an instant, regrettable classic.
It’s not long before the VHS tape stutters and stops, showing mostly static. A magenta furred Grumpus with some hair covering a part of eye, hits the eject button, takes out the tape and turns off the tv. “Girl, you were a right mess there!” She said with a giggle. “Tell me about it, Vrittany...” Wiggle said frustratingly, pinching the bridge of her nose. “And you’re telling me you can’t come up with anything better than that? Come on now!” “I wish I was lying, but I’m not. No matter what I come up with, nothing is topping whatever the heck my walking coma came up with instead!” Wiggle grabs her mug of coffee and takes a longing sip.
The two sit across from one another at the coffee bar. The aroma of that day’s set of cocoa beans waft through the cafe as most of the outside lamps fill out the darker spots inside. The place is nearly empty besides them, and a single muted green furred occupant sitting at a booth at the opposite end of the cafe, drawing away in his sketchpad.
“So, whatcha gonna do?” Vrittany asked sarcastically, “Stay awake for another week? Get inspired again? Hehe.” Wiggle sets her mug down, and answers, “I did try that again, but in style I fell asleep comfortably on a couch in the lobby”. Vrittany looked a bit stunned. “You’re kidding?! You’re crazy!” “Not crazy, Vrittany,” she takes another sip of her coffee before striking a pose in her high stool seat, bellowing out her voice. “Just creatiiiivly driveeeen~” “Whatever you say, darling,” Vrittany says before turning around to her bar’s sink. She cleans several mugs and glasses with gusto while preparing one last pot of coffee, enough for a single cup for later.
Vrittany takes off her apron and hangs it on the wayside of the counter as she walks around to take a seat next to Wiggle. After situating herself, she puts a paw on Wiggle’s shoulder. “Listen, pretty sure this is just a rut you’re stuck in right now,” she says. “Doesn’t every artist go through that every now and then?” Wiggle turns her head toward Vrittany, “Well..yeah, but this is different,” she desperately says. “I can’t let a song I made in my sleep be the best thing I’ve ever made! I know I can make something that’ll shake the world more than whatever ‘Do The Wiggle’ was.”
Vrittany pulls back her paw from Wiggle to put on her best thinking cap. As deeply in thought as she was, her face immediately relaxes into a deadpan expression, “Have ya tried singing from the heart?” Wiggle cracks a smile, “HA, if only that’s how it works! It takes a musical genius to write a hit song in show biz, not just some field day with my feelings.” “Eh, worth a shot. Got any other plans?” “I’m still trying to figure that out. I need some kind of inspiration...almost like a-”
Before she could finish her thought, they both caught a glance at the muted green furred grump who walked up to them. He mustered up the words and said, “E-excuse me, you’re Miss Wiggle, right?” Wiggle turned in her seat to get a better look at the young Grumpus. She could tell he was nervous, clutching his sketchbook in his arms rather tightly. She quickly put on a more relaxed front to help calm things down, while also still showing off a bit of her excited side. “Why yes I am, Darling,” she said enthusiastically. “And I can tell you must be a fan of mine.” “Y-yeah...!” The green grump looked a little more relaxed, but still stiff in the shoulders. “Hey now, no need to be so nervous. I always got time for my fans.” “Thank you, Miss Wiggle. Um…” “No need to finish that thought, Darling, I know what you’re about to ask and I’m happy to oblige!”
Before the young man could stop to say something, Wiggle pulls out one of her many professional hand out photos that she has, and quickly signs with her autograph before handing it to him. “O-Oh, thank you, Miss, but that’s not what I was going to s-say.” he sheepishly says. “Really? Not an autograph,” Wiggle says surprisingly. “It’s usually the first thing fans ask of me.” “Sorry, I just...I wanted to show you this sketch I made…”
The nervous grumpus slowly turns his sketchbook around to reveal a fully sketched art piece depicting a stylized Wiggle singing her heart out at the bar with Vrittany hanging out in the background cheering her on. He hands it to Wiggle to give them a closer look. It was still somewhat messy, showing a few guidelines and early roughed out shapes, but for what it was, it was still impressive to the two girls.
“Woah, that’s pretty rad!” Vrittany yelled out, leaning out from her seat trying to get a closer look. Wiggle was pretty stun, gasping at the sight of such a piece of artwork. “Darling, you drew this?! Just now,” Wiggle asked in awe. “Yeah! I was listening to some of your music and then you came in and sat down. It made me wanna draw you as fast as I could,” the green grumps says excitedly before rubbing the back of his head. “Sorry if it’s still a little messy looking though…” “Don’t be, because it is beeeaautifuuul~” “T-thank you so much, Miss Wiggle! T-that means a lot to m-me!” the grumpus says while his face lights up red from the praise. “You’re like an inspiration to me.” “Really now? Like a muse? All I do is sing the night away, Darling. You draw little masterpieces like this from me?”
As Wiggle continues to be enthralled by the young man and his work, Vrittany notices the coffee pot had finished brewing. She gets up from her seat and go back behind the counter to finish her last cup for the night. Wiggle and the green grump continue their conversation.
“W-well kind of,” says the grump, “it’s a bunch of music that inspires me when I draw. A lot of your stuff is so upbeat and fun, it gives me lots of different ideas to pump out!” Wiggle looks back, almost flabbergasted. “I’m...honestly a bit stunned that I had that kind of impact on you, Darling,” she says, almost with a melancholy tone, “...heh, kind of forget sometimes I do make some kind of impression on grumps like you.” She looks back down at the sketchbook, entranced by the creativity that sparked in the moment. That dazzling moment where it all clicked...where could she find that, when someone else can find it in her?
After an awkward minute of silence, the young grump spoke up and said, “If you like, you can keep the sketch page, Miss Wiggle?” Wiggle snapped her head back up from the sketchbook to the green fuzzball. “W-wait really? Are you sure you wanna give up this piece of art?” said Wiggle worryingly. “It’s no problem at all,” said the green grump proudly. “I already took a picture of it to save for later. I’m gonna make a painted version of it online later! Besides, it’ll make me happy if you kept it, since I was going to give it to you anyway.” “Oh Darling, you’re nothing more than a sweet one now, aren’t you? I’ll gladly keep it!” “Thank you so much, Miss Wiggle!”
Wiggle hands the sketchbook back to the green grumpus and he tears out the sketch. “No, Darling, thank you,” Wiggle says ecstatically. Vrittany returns from behind the bar with a to-go cup in hand, saying “Here’s your order, kid.”  “Oh, thank you, Vrittany. How much was it again,” the green grump asked. “Eh, don’t worry about it. Don’t feel like counting change. It’s on the house.” “O-oh you sure?” “You wanna change my mind?” “Don’t think I can, so thank you!” The green grump turns back to Wiggle and says “It was so nice meeting you in person, Miss Wiggle!”
“The pleasure is all mine, Dar-,” Wiggle catches herself before she realizes something. “Actually, what was your name?” “It’s Grite, Grite Tillsland!” Wiggle lets a genuine soft smile grow on her face. She felt a lot more at ease and happier knowing her new friend was much more relax and happy overall. She reached out her paw for a handshake, and Grite reciprocated.
“The pleasure’s mine, Grite, Darling.”

RECOVERED: Lost Mafia Kids files.
Mafia kids: 12 signatures as been my passion project all the way back since high school... like... 6 or 5 years ago? Oh my god... I'm getting old. This dates back to 2018.
CHAPTER 1
My high school years will be memories that I look over with more and more horror as I get older. At the time, I wasn’t afraid and I was too naive to realize the real danger I was in. However, I will never regret what I did. I was only trying to help.
It started with my dad losing his job. My family depended on him financially, my mom never worked too much, my brother, Kevin, was too young to even work, and even if I was old enough to work at the time, I didn’t want to and I felt as though I was allowed not to. Pretty selfish, right? But the minimum wage I could have gotten wouldn’t have helped in this situation; my family used to be rich, but once my dad was fired, we lost all the money and the benefits that came along with it. I assume it’s because my father liked to show off and so we were living above our means.
We moved to the slums of the big city, it was the most dangerous place in the area, but the cheapest. We stopped buying nice things like we used to, now we lived on bare essentials. Kevin took this hard, but I tried to adapt. I went to a new school too. It was the only school in the ghetto closest to our house, but it was infamous for being filled with child delinquents. Not only that, but it was infamously known as the worst school out there, in the poorest neighborhood.
I was so foolish… I really expected to be accepted there. In my old school, I was a bit bullied but I had a large group of friends, and we all got a long great! I was a really social and friendly person, so I wasn’t worried about going and making new friends in this hostile environment, but I was so, so, SO stupid!
From the second I walked in, I was stunned by how diverse it was there, there were few white people, and most of the kids there were racial minorities. I stuck out like a sore thumb… I went to school wearing my favorite rainbow pastel dress, I had even curled my hair and showered before my first day of school! I smelled of flowers and I was so cute looking. That however… That was my first mistake!
The others kids looked dirty… I don’t want to sound mean but they did! Their shirts were covered with stains. They seemed tired and unkempt. It was really a shocking contrast to the private school I went to before, but I tried not to judge. I acted super friendly and nice to everybody I saw. I introduced myself and I did a curtsy, I was so prim and proper!
“Hello there! My name’s Safara Grace, I’m new to this school. How are you?” Is what I’d say, but people seemed to hate me even more.
But not only that… I was white… Pure white. No, I don’t think you understand just how pale my skin is, it looks like I’ve never been outside before. Why? Because I’m an albino! Yes, my skin is pale, my eyes are purple and my hair is bleach white. Every time people see me, they look stunned and ask if I’m faking it. I’ve been dealing with this my whole life. I was born this way. Albinos are so rare, so the best way I can make you understand what my life is like on a daily basis is to make you imagine something…
So imagine you’re a kid… A black kid...going to school, but everybody there is white. They've never seen a black kid before and you are the only black kid around.
Imagine the bullying or the weird stares… Yeah! That’s my life all the time! Except I have no refuge with other albino people like the black kid does, I just have me! Being such a rare trait, I don’t even know another who looks like me… Oh and also, my skin is very irritable to sun light, so I walk around with a parasol all the time.
But anyways, I made no friends. For the first time ever, I was unable to make friends! I was heart broken and confused. I became very lonely. I hated this school so much… Everybody was so different… They hated me because I looked rich and I was so freakishly white. I told myself that the racism against me for being white was justified. I mean, white people were very racist in the past… But I soon stopped when I realized the few other white kids in the school weren’t getting bullied at all! Well… Except for one… I noticed this boy who always did group projects and sat alone at lunch like I did... He never spoke and nobody ever dared talk about him. I started hanging out with him, and I soon learned why…
CHAPTER 2
Yeah, that boy was creepy. He was tall, bone thin skinny, and he had extremely messy dark brown hair, tipped with gold. He was sort of attractive in the “I look almost dead inside but I’m super hot” kind of way. He wore a blue dress shirt with a grey hoodie on top. He was…strange.
He looked so tired with black bags hung under his eyes. His skin was gray and bruised all over. He had this depressing aura that lingered around him. To any normal person, just staring at him would send off red flags and make you stay away. To me though, a desperate and lonely teenage girl, he was perfect.
I quickly understood why everybody stopped bullying me when I started hanging out with him; they pitied me! They used to call me names and shove me into walls, but they stopped when I met him.
One day, a popular girl told me she would be my friend if I stopped hanging out with him. “Uh… why? I’m sorry but this sounds like a trap.” I replied to her, rolling my eyes.
“I know this looks cheap but I’m not kidding…”, she paused, “that guy is NUTS. He’s too weird for such an innocent li'l girl like you. Look, I promise to be nicer and I’ll tell everybody in school that you’re cool, but seriously…not him…hang out with anybody except him…”
“Why? Why is he so crazy to you?” I was so insulted by her pleas.
“Because he’s…he’s… I don’t know what’s wrong with him!”, she yelled at me. “The guy’s a fucking creeper and he’s unstable! Not only that, but rumors around school say that he’s addicted to the worst kinds of drugs, but nobody is even sure of that. Others say he’s mental, but it doesn’t matter what his problem is, he’s gonna rip you apart, Safari!”
“My name is Safara…”, I said in a dead pan tone. All I could do was walk away.
I think I did the right thing in that moment… That girl was a bitch to me. She spread lies around the school about my father and how he lost his job for cheating on my mom. Everybody believed it only because she was popular. I hated her and I wasn’t going to take her advice.
But, no matter how I spin it… She was absolutely right. Bonding with that guy was harder than I thought… More often than not, I felt uncomfortable around him. Getting him to speak was hard enough, he would ignore me and stay silent but when he did talk, it was…
IT WAS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND HIM! He spoke like an emotionless robot! His tone of voice was this constant bored and tired tone, yet sometimes he’d say a joke or act sarcastic, but it wouldn’t make any sense because he sounded exactly the same as his normal tone!
It took me a whole month to get him to talk to me. I felt bad for pestering him around… I’d force my way into working with him during group projects in class, I’d eat with him at lunch, and I'd hang out with him in the library.
I remember the first time I got him to talk to me. I had opened up my sketch book and tried showing him my clothing designs. He looked at them blankly. He seemed uninterested at most of the drawings.
"They're pretty good.", he said in an uncaring tone.
"Oh...you...like them? For real?" I couldn't help but smile anyway.
“Yeah.” He replied simply. “You’re good.”
"Oh, thank you..." I pointed to my favorite ones. "You see how my dresses are colorful? Well, I do that just cause these days all the clothes are boring and black. I like making my stuff stand out, but I also like pastel colors too."
I assumed he didn't care because he sounded bored. Also he's was a boy. Boys don't like fashion like girls do.
He tilted his head slightly, "Yeah..I can see that.”. He sounded just as lifeless as ever.
I was surprised by this interaction, but after this he seemed to open up to me. He spoke to me about the things his liked; those being science and history, but he still didn’t talk much.
It was funny, because after a while I got used to him. I was able to read his sarcasm from his honesty even if the tone of his voice didn’t give any clues… I was so used to his weirdness that I stopped questioning him about all the bruises he had on his body. Heck, I even forgot that I didn’t know his name!
But luckily, one day he told me it out of the blue. We were in class working on a english oral presentation and we were both writing our parts and then he suddenly looked at me, straight in the eyes and said:
“Dimitrius Atkins.”
“What?”, I replied, not even bothering to look back at him.
“That’s my name. I know your name.” He replied. “But you don’t know mine… a-and that’s not fair.”
“Oh… You’re right! I sort of forgot about asking you after a while.”, I said, surprised. “Dimitrius… That’s an uncommon name..” “Please call me Dimitri though.” He corrected me with a monotone expression. “I don’t like Dimitrius.”
“Oh… why don’t you?”
“It sounds too serious. I’m a goofy guy. It’s not very fitting.”, he said seriously. How ironic.
I just giggled and went back to work.
From then on, we sort of became friends. The more he spoke, the more concern grew in me. He wasn’t crazy like everybody said he was, but there was something wrong with him.
He showed up to school with blood stains on his sleeves and scars all over him sometimes. I can’t forget the time he showed up to class late… He limped over to his desk, bruises all over his hands and he had a black eye. That was my wake up call. After that, I started noticing more.
I guess the first thing was his sarcasm. I assumed it was sarcasm.
“Hey Dimitri, what’s up!?”, I’d say excitedly.
“No… He’s not here right now.”, he’d reply.
Or other nonsensical replies.
“Hey Dimitri, for the project, do you want me to write the introduction or should I do the conclusion?”
“No, Safara, the world won’t have a conclusion.”, he said blankly.
“Dimitri, I mean the project!”, I exclaimed. “What are you talking about?”
“Yeah, it’s fine.” He said looking away from me.
These sort of situations would come out of nowhere. Like I said, I thought it was him being sarcastic or making jokes, but the more we talked, the more I realized: he wasn’t joking. He was giving me these nonsense answers because he thought they were appropriate but it just made no sense…
I asked my mother, a psychologist, about it. I told her everything about him.
“Oh Safara… Your friend sounds like he’s mentally ill.”, she answered with concern in her eyes.
“You sure? I know he’s weird but…”
“Safara, this sounds serious. Maybe you should invite him over someday… I would love to talk to him.”
“Ok mom, I will.” I told her.
CHAPTER 3
The day after, I went to school with a mission. I was going to invite Dimitri to my house! I was so anxious about it that my legs were fidgeting all day.
I saw him sitting at his usual spot, alone in the library, reading a book about robotics like he always did. His hair was combed that day, he looked good for once! Well, looking good for him is pretty easy. He just has to look like he wasn't beat up 10 minutes ago and had washed his hair in the past 20 years.
I walked over to him, and Dimitri greeted me!
“Hey there, angel girl.”, he quietly said. He sounded tired.
I was caught off guard. Was he complimenting me? I sat down next to him.
“Hey there. So…do you want to go out?”, I said jokingly. I wanted to see him get flustered. I was pretty disappointed when he just nodded and continued reading. I think I may have spotted his cheeks get a little flushed, however.
“No, I mean, do you want to eat dinner with my family this weekend?”
“No.” He said dryly.
“Oh… Do you want to hang out this weekend?” I tried again.
“Sure.”
“At my house?”
“No.”
“Then where do you want to hang out?”, I snapped at him impatiently. I was shushed by the librarian.
“At the park.”, he whispered back.
“Oh. Cool.” I was a bit surprised. I didn’t know there was a park near by. “See ya there then.”
“Bye.” He waved at me and very obviously forced a smile. “Dimitri... I’m not leaving.” I laughed quietly but the librarian heard it. He promptly kicked me out of the library.
I got up and walked out.
“Bye again.”, he said while waving at me. This time his smile seemed more genuine, which hurt me a lot.
I muttered curse words under my breath and walked out embarrassed. My mission was a failure, but I was going to meet him at the park that Friday after school, so I felt proud either way.
Friday night finally came. The wait was unbearable. We met outside of the school. He gave a look, but it was more like a blank stare. He gave me a signal to walk over to him. Once I was close to him, he said carefully,
“Watch out for people who follow us. The park is safe but the path there is dangerous.”
I was unsure of how to reply so I just nodded. He put up his hood and lead the way. I followed him, walking by his side, trying not to get my parasol in the way. I tried to make small talk, but he stayed mostly quiet.
He asked me about my family, so I told him why I moved here.
“That’s too bad.”. He sounded careless, like he didn’t mean it. “This place is a bad place to live in.”
“I… Yeah…”. I agreed with him but I felt bad doing so, knowing that he lived here.
Looking around me, I saw trash all over the streets. People weren’t dressed as well as they used to be back in my previous neighborhood. People looked tired or overworked. There were hobos all over the place. Not to mention the buildings looked old and worn down.
“This place is so different from where I used to live.”, I told him.
“This is what poverty looks like.”, he said bluntly, “everybody here is suffering.”
“I know…”. I was hurt just seeing it all. I felt so sad for these people. “I want to help them.”
“Don’t.”
“W-why not?”. I stammered over my words, shocked by his apathy.
“They just take and take. They will never get out of this.”. He looked at me blankly. “Nobody gets out of poverty once they fall into it.”
“But… what about me?!”, I said, insulted.
“Start getting a job. Save up.”. He looked around behind his shoulder. “You can dream too.”
I stopped talking to him until we reached the park. I didn’t like him being so mean but what he said had truth to it.
The park was surprisingly isolated. It was full of trees and trash littered the ground. It was peaceful and it looked like a forest with hiking trails.
“You like to walk?”, he asked emotionlessly.
“Yes, and I love nature too.”, I said smiling, pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the park. “There’s a lot of trash here but it’s still nice to have a forest in the middle of the city.”
“That’s good.”, he replied, “nobody likes to come here…”
“Oh? Why not? It’s so pretty!”
“Um… well.”, he started, “there was once a big mafia that was running this part of the city. They committed many crimes. This park used to be popular for kids in the summer, but then they realized that the mafia was burying their victims here…. A police investigation was launched and they dug up over 22 bodies…”
“Oh my god…”, I whispered.
“Exactly.” He nodded. “People weren’t allowed in during the investigation…but once it was over, people didn’t want to come back in here. I’ve only ever seen one other guy here.” “They are afraid… and for good reason.”
“And nobody wants to buy this land cause it’s “haunted” apparently.” He forces a small laugh like it’s funny. “I’ve been here a lot and I haven’t seen anything here.”
“Well… heh… I can’t say I’m exactly too thrilled to take a stroll in here now.” I joked even though it was half true.
He didn’t reply. He just started walking. We walked in silence for a bit. It was making me feel really uncomfortable. I started looking around the forest. We could still hear the cars whooshing past us, as the streets were just behind the tree line, but as we walked further and further away, the sound faded.
I felt at peace, listening to the rustle of the wind in the leaves and the birds in the trees.
As a city girl, I don’t go to forest that often. My closest experience to animals are the bird feeders in my back yard and the squirrels. This walk was giving me nostalgic memories of the times I went camping.
I turns to look at what was to my left and I jumped a bit, seeing Dimitri besides me was startling as he was so quiet I forgot he was there. Though now, I was staring at him…. subtly! So he wouldn’t notice… I spotted a couple of bruises on his hands, neck and a faded scar on his cheek. Now that I was up close to him, I could see there was a lot more signs of injuries on him then I had previously thought.
“Hey Dimitri…”, I mumbled to him timidly.
He almost robotically turned to look at me. “Yeah?”
“Sorry for asking this… It might be personal. Why do you have a lot of bruises on your skin?”, I asked him. Instantly regretting the invasive question, I stammered out another sentence. “It’s nosey of me, I know, but it’s a hard detail to miss. It’s concerning…”
He went back to looking in front of him. He didn’t reply for a solid minute. The silence and wait was unbearable.
“I just get into a lot of fights.” He answered simply.
“But how?” My interest was peaked.
“Well you know… it’s a bad neighborhood. Gangs are everywhere.” He turned to look at me. “You better be careful.”
The words lingered in my head, sending a chill down my spine. The way he said it, cold and uncaringly, sent implications that were not spoken. Was he…threatening to attack me? Or was he warning me of other people doing so? He creeped me out.
“T-thanks… I will.”
Finally we reached a small river that ran along through the city and this park. We stopped and Dimitri told me a story about how a kid drowned in it. He’s not a very cheerful guy but I tried to ignore it…
We sat along the edge of the river. There were ducks passing by. Dimitri pulled a whole loaf of bread out of his back pack and handed me a few slices.
“Do you always carry around bread in your bag?” I laughed.
“Yep.” He said throwing a piece of bread into the water.
I laughed even harder. “So you do this often?”
“Yep.”
A pack of ducks were gathered around us now, fighting over the pieces of bread we were tossing into the water. We fed the ducks together while chatting. Eventually the topic of family came up.
“Well… I have a little brother. He’s a little brat. What about you?”, I asked.
“I’m a single child.”, he said, concentrated on the ducks.
“Aw, that must be lonely, isn’t it?”
“It is… But not because of my lack of siblings.”, he answered robotically.
“Oh how so?” I was probing for more information.
“Well I don’t have a father… Um… no. I do have a dad, he’s just not around much at all. And my mom? I avoid her.” He said hesitantly.
“Why is your dad gone? Why do you avoid your mom?”, I asked, concerned for him.
He forced a smile and looked at me. “No. Everything is fine.”
“Dimitri…” I gave him my “I know you’re lying to me” face and his smile faded away back to his neutral expression.
“My mom isn’t a nice woman… And my dad is in prison.”
“Oh… I’m sorry.” I felt bad for pushing him to say it.
But a thought clicked in my head. He came to school everyday with bruises and cuts and he admitted that his mother wasn’t “nice”. Was this abuse?
“D-Dimitri… does your mom hurt?” I questioned.
“No.” He said simply.
“But you-”
“No.” he said a bit louder. “She doesn’t like me. But she doesn’t not like me either.” He said calmly. “Now stop asking me crappy questions.”
“I’m sorry…”
“It’s ok. I forgive you.”
We finished the bread and the ducks looked satisfied. They swam off and we walked off. He chatted a little back to the streets. I offered Dimitri the dinner invitation again and he accepted. We scheduled it, and I went home.
CHAPTER 4
It was the big day! Dimitri was gonna come over, we were going to hang out, eat dinner and somehow I’d persuade him to talk to my mom so she could figure out what was wrong with him.
I know I sound weird, trying to stalk him and get him diagnosed by my mom, but I obsessively want to help people and sometimes I take it too far. This is one of those times.
Dimitri showed up at our door. He was wearing a blue dress shirt and his hair was combed but still messy. He had a black eye and a bloody nose. He didn’t seemed fazed by it at all.
My brother heared the knocking first, unknowing of what our guest would look like. To his surprise, he was met by a disheveled young man at our door, standing like nothing was the matter. All he could do was stare.
Dimitri was so shy he didn’t say anything, just bleeding out of his nose. The blood was dripping down his face and leaking down his neck. He had just been seriously punched in the face, but my brother was too choked up and confused to know what to do.
“What the fuck happened to you!?”, Kevin yelled in disgust.
“I um..” He stammered. “I was mugged before coming here…”
Kevin just gave him a look of astonishment and ran into the kitchen to call for our mother.
Dimitri just let himself in. At that point I had heard the commotion and promptly came down the stairs. I froze up, seeing Dimitri bleeding like that.
“Hi Safara!” He waved cheerfully to me.
My mother came rushing in and bombarded the boy with questions, giving him a towel for his nose and a wet rag for his eye.
Dimitri seemed oddly perky. Usually, he was emotionless, making him come across as bored or slightly annoyed with everything. However, now he seemed to have a hint of happiness in his demeanor. I won’t ever complain about Dimitri being actually happy for once, but it was so different from his normal self that it weirded me out.
My mother, brother and I gave him a lot of attention while trying to help his wounds heal. He just sat there and gave us a small smile. He was giggling randomly from time to time. He seemed to be really enjoying himself even thought nothing much was happening.
“So what happened to you, eh?” Kevin asked.
“Oh... I was walking over here from my house. I was taking the back roads to avoid the traffic.” He started to explain.
“Back roads? Traffic? You were walking! How could there be traffic?” Kevin interrupted.
“I don’t like the big streets with too many cars…” He snarled. “Anyways… I passed by an alley way when a sketchy little girl jumped in front of me. She said something about me needing to go somewhere with her to meet somebody and to learn “about the past.” But I didn’t want to be late so I “kindly explained” to her that I needed to be somewhere and she got “upset” with me. Then, she punched me in the face and walked off.”
“That’s… odd.” I interjected. “Are you ok though?”
“Well I’m here aren’t I?” He smiles brightly.
I was just more unnerved. This was too out of character for him… But I tried to ignore it.
Dimitri was popular with my family. My dad and him made jokes together. My brother and him ran off to play video games. (By the way, he sucks at gaming. I would haven’t guessed he’d be terrible…)
My mother approached me.
“Safara, you said he was off, but he doesn’t seem like it now.”
“I know but he’s never acted like this before. He’s usually cold and apathetic to everything.” I turned to face her. “He’s like emotionless all the time and the other kids at school say he’s crazy and talks to himself. I don’t get it! He’s the complete opposite to how he asks at school.”
My mother just stared at me for a moment. “Have you noticed that he was giggling at nothing earlier?”
“Yes?”
“He’s high.” She said with a really serious tone.
“WHAT?” I gasped.
“QUIET! It’s only a guess… But I’ve seen this behavior before. He doesn’t have any redness in the eyes, though… So I don’t know what it is that he’s on. Oh, but there's also other factors. Maybe at school, he’s just really depressed and outside of school he feels more free to open up?” She hypothesized.
“That can’t be it. When we went to the park, he was acting the same.” I argued.
“Well then.” She rolled her eyes. “We should let him get comfortable and then we can get our improv therapy session, but only if he cooperates.”
The night went on. Dimitri's enthusiasm diminished so much so during the night that he was back to his emotionless self when dinner came around. He was so quiet that my family ignored him for the whole supper. He was extremely shy. I tried to talk to him but he would only nod his head in response to anything.
After dinner, he and I went up to my room. I gave him a “grand tour” which mainly consisted of me showing him my stuff and him just listening. He was barely talking. I felt bad.
“Dimitri… are you ok?”
He just nodded meekly.
“It’s ok if you aren’t. Do you want to go home?” I asked him, sitting down on my bed.
Dimitri sat down next to me. I started getting nervous and my heart was beating fast. He was so close to me I could feel his body heat radiating.
“No… I like it here a lot. Your new house is very lovely, Safara.” He answered quietly.
My heart started pumping faster. I was my shot to convince him to talk to my mother. I had to ask him!
“So Dimitri…”
“Yes!?” He interrupted me suddenly.
“My mom is a psychologist and I know you have some problems… I was wondering if maybe you could talk to her and she could help you, like a therapy session. You wanna try it?”
He just blankly stared at me. His face was draining of blood and he was losing color.
“Yeah… but she won’t talk to you about it, right?”
“Oh no! That would be breaking the confidentiality rules! She won’t tell me anything. Even if I asked her, she’s very serious about her job.”
“Uh… ok. But not now…” He hesitated.
“Oh that's alright.” I leaned over to put my head on his shoulder.
I felt him shutter from the touch but he didn’t move away from it. He posed his head on mine and we sat like this for a while. It was peaceful and warm. I closed my eyes and held his hand. His palms were sweaty and he was trembling a bit.
“Do you mind?” I asked.
“No.” He answered.
“Good.” I held his hand tightly.
“I d-didn’t think this was a date.” He stammered.
“It’s not…”
“Then why are you doi- holdi- uh… UMM-”
“Sorry.” I back away and let go. “I’m just a huggy person. I hope you don’t mind.”
“I’m just…” he shivers a bit. “Not used to getting touched affectionately.”
“Oh Dimitri.” I giggled. “I don’t really consider this affection, I just think of hugs as casual things friends do.”
“Oh ok.” He replied.
We watched a little bit of TV, not saying much. After the episode ended, He got up and walked out. I thought he was going to the bathroom and he’d come back quickly but he never did.
After 20 minutes, I left the room and looked around.
Kevin was in the kitchen, sneaking cookies out of my parents’ secret spot for them.
“Hey bro, where’s Dimi?” I asked him, taking a cookie for myself.
“He’shh- wiff mom.” He said, mouth utterly stuffed with cookies.
“Thanks.” I put the cookies away and I went back to my room to wait for him.
I think Dimitri stayed there for 2 hours. I was watching the TV for a ridiculously long time. When he did come back, he looked drained.
“Sorry about that. I was expecting a little chat but I couldn’t shut myself up so I started ranting for a while.” He explained.
“Oh it’s ok. It is therapy.” I excused him.
He smiled and hugged me. I was taken aback but I held him tightly. I could feel his body. He was so frail and skinny under those clothes. It was calming for that half a second we that were close.
Then he left.
I felt so lonely with him gone.
But then I realized…
“SHIT! WE SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM A RIDE HOME!”
CHAPTER 5
Nothing changed much at school. Dimitri was his typical robot self. There is one thing that was very welcomed though… Dimitri seemed to be forcing himself to act more. He would talk with more hand gestures and smiles (but his smiles were very awkward looking because he was forcing them).
Dimitri also became really friendly with my family. He would come over once a week after his first session with my mother. She really liked talking to him.
Neither Dimitri or my mother told me what they would talk about, but I knew it was serious. She would walk around with her note book after the sessions and often times, she’d be the one to invite him over.
One day, I knew something was up. She sat me down to talk about him.
“Safara, what has he told you about his life?” She asked me with a sternness in her voice.
“Not much…” Then I repeated all that he told me.
“I see. He is trying to hide it…” She flipped through her notes. “I can’t tell you much, with out his consent, but Dimitri allowed me to tell you this yesterday.”
“Oh…” I could feel that what she was about to say really important.
She looked me dead in the eyes and straightened her glasses. “He’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was 15 years old.”
A wave of shock zipped through my body. I was speechless.
“He has vivid hallucinations. Safara, that’s why he acts emotionless.” She told me.
“But what about when he comes here and acts all… alive?” I asked, completely baffled.
“That I don’t know.” She sighed. “But Safara, I want you to be extremely careful with him.”
“I am!”
“No… just…” She smiles at me. “Please keep being nice to him. You mean a lot to him.”
I blushed and nodded.
“That’s all I’m allowed to say. You should try to talk to him about his issues. He trusts you to keep these a secret, however. You got that, right?”
“Yes mother, I understand.” I got up to leave.
“Wait! I forgot to mention something.”
I sat back down.
“Would you mind if Dimitri lived with us?” She asked me.
My eyes widened. “You aren’t serious, are you?”
“I am. He has a bad home life, and I know that one of the only ways he can get better is by having a better family, so I asked him if could move in with us. It will be temporary, like maybe a few months or so.” She explained, justifying her decision. “I’ve already spoken to your father about this and he agrees. Dimitri wouldn’t be that huge of an addition to the family, we’d just need more food and that’s it.”
“Oh I don’t mind but don’t adopt him, ok? It would be weird to have a brother that looks so different from us.” I joked.
“Oh but that's what adoption is all about, sweetie! And he isn’t that different from us. I mean you are the most different of us all.” She touched my hair and poked my cheek, giggling the whole time.
This gesture really annoyed me. “...Thanks mom. But also, I just don’t want another brother. Kevin is enough of a brat as it is.”
“Dimitri’s a sweet young man” She said as she was getting up. “Anyways, I’m going to tell Kevin the news.”
I went back up to my room and I could hear my li'l bro wailing down stairs. He cried, “BUT THAT’S TOO MANY PEEEEOPLE!”. I snickered to myself.
CHAPTER 6
Dimitri came up to me at school the next day. He asked me if my mom told me the stuff and about the “news”.
“Oh. I’m so happy to be moving in with you.” He forced a smile but still sounded monotone.
“Me too! We’d get to hang out all the time!” I hugged him from excitement.
Dimitri grabbed me and spun around with me in his arms. He gently put me down. I looked up at him, confused but I saw a genuine smile on his face and my heart melted.
Dimitri being HAPPY is the cutest thing ever.
“Sorry. I’m just so excited.” He shook my hand for some reason. “I’ve just always wanted to leave home.”
“Oh… why?” I asked with concern.
“Well uh… Never mind!” He suddenly laughed awkwardly. “But yeah I’ll tell you in private. By the way, I’m sleeping in your basement.
“I’m really happy for you though.” I held his hand as we walked off to class. I didn’t care if the other students were watching. Dimitri seemingly lost his enthusiasm and got really quiet after that.
CHAPTER 7
Moving Dimitri into our basement wasn’t that hard and it didn’t take long. All he had was trash bags full of his clothes, a box that was full to the brim, labelled “parts”, and a mattress he used as a bed. All we did was put his stuff down and he organized it by himself.
Two hours later, he went up to my room. “Want a room tour, Saf?”
“Sure!” I went down the stairs alongside him.
His bed was just a mattress on the floor with a pillow and blanket. There was a desk that was particularly lacking the normal desk-clutter, and a simple wooden chair. My parents emptied out a shelf and he put his clothes there. There were no doors on the shelf so I could see his shirts, pants, and (Oh my gosh!) boxers! (Is it pervert to stare at a guy’s underpants??? It made me super uncomfortable to see those!)
Dimitri’s box of parts was untouched in the corner. All in all, the room was pretty small but it still had looked like he barely filled it. I walked over to his box and pointed at it.
“Need help unpacking this?” I asked.
“Oh!” He stared. “No. Don’t touch that, it’s fragile.”
“Ok, sorry.” I said. “So how do you like your new crib?”
“Super cool. I never really cared for the decorations, as long as it’s warm and I can eat and sleep, I’ll be fine.”
“Neat. So what now?” I asked.
He scratched his chin and looked up. “I don’t know. Want to watch a movie?”
“Sure! I just got a new horror movie from the store. I think it’s a slasher flick of something. I got it for my brother but he was too scared to watch it. I’m not a fan of those movies but I liked to get scared every once in a while. What do ya' say?”
He just went flush red and became really quiet. “Oh uh…” He scratched the back of his head. “Um… Ok.”
“What? You don’t like horror?” I asked, seeing how uncomfortable he was.
“N- I do like that. Let’s watch it.” His smile was meant to reassure me but it was so obvious it was forced.
So we went to my room to watch the movie. I really embarrassed with how much I yelped at each jump scare. Oh, and how I needed to cover my eyes during the violent scenes! Though, Dimitri barely had reaction. He was blushing from ear to ear and biting his lower lip. He would flinch during the fight scenes but, yeah. That was it. I thought he would be judging me for being a wimp! But half way through he got up and left, so I finished without him.
A hour later, I went downstairs to his room. I knocked on the door and he yelled. “It’s unlocked.” I walked in to see him fiddling around with metallic parts and tools. I approached cautiously.
“What are you doing?” I questioned, tilting my head to the side.
“Tinkering.” He replied expressionlessly.
I watched him open up the box to pull a toy robot he was going to disassemble. He leaned over to take a screw driver and started to remove pieces from the toy.
I leaned over to get a closer look. “Why are you breaking it?”
“I’m not breaking it.” He replied calmly. “I’m taking it apart… and rebuilding it.”
“Oh, why?”
“Well, it helps me understand how it’s made and the techniques they used.”
“Oh that sounds neat. You like making robots?” I asked him, overly interested in what he was doing.
I sat down next to him. He just looked at me and said nothing. I think he was confused but yet again, he had no emotion. Just his regular expressionless glare. His eyes felt like they were piercing deep into my soul… those glass-like, grayish-blue eyes. They creeped me out.
“Tell me about your robots, Dimitrius.” I muttered. “I’m curious…”
He raised an eye brow for a second but then went back to tinkering.
“So I like making stuff with my hands… Though, I have a whole system for it.” he paused and looked at me again. “You don’t mind me rambling?”
“Oh, Dimitri...you barely talk. I like your voice! Go ahead.” I encouraged him to go on.
“So uh…” he forced a smile. It was so cute. “I like making my own custom robots for tournaments and stuff, but I’m not that good at making my own parts, so I take them from other bots that I buy.”
I listened, completely fascinated in it. His voice was monotone and boring but he sounded calm. As he went on, there was a hint of happiness with him being able to talk about his passion.
“I take them apart then I rebuild them.” He continued. “...W-with out instruction manuals. The point is to know the purpose of all the parts, where they go, and how they work. I repeat breaking them down and building them back up again until I know the bots perfectly.”
“Is it time consuming?” I tilted my head and picked up one of his tools.
“It is but it depends on how complex the model is. Though, once I understand the bot perfectly, I can take its pieces and use them to make my own bot… or if I like the robot, I mod them to make them more efficient or stronger. Whatever I feel like doing to it, basically.” He took the piece from my hand. “This is a screw driver….”
“Oh my god! You think I didn’t know what a screw driver was!” I laughed at him but I stopped when I saw that he looked nervous.
“Sorry, Dimitri. I like what you do with the robots. It’s really cool.”
“Thank you…” He replied timidly.
Suddenly the door opened, and someone appeared from the newly escaping light. Dad. He sternly yelled, “SAFARA! IT’S BED TIME.”
I called back to him, "I'M COMING, ONE SECOND!". I gave Dimitri a hug.
“Good night, Dimi!”, I said as I was running up the stairs.
Dimitri just stares at dad, mouth agape. His cheeks were the reddest I've ever seen. “Y-you too, angel…” He stammered and muttered.
SIDE CHAPTER 1
-MONSTERS-
A woman paced around the room and stopped in front of a mirror hung up on the wall, putting on a pearl necklace. She grabbed a comb and brushed over the bangs of her long, silky, brown hair. She was very tall and slim. Like a stick, she adorned barely any curves. As she stared at herself in the mirror, she smiled. She was all dressed up in all of her best clothes.
A man walked into her room. He was smiling. Wearing a suit with a green tie, matching with the color of his eyes. He was giving a piggy back ride to his son, a cute little boy with short blond hair.
The woman walked up to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Are you two ready to go to church?”, she asked with her sing song voice.
“Of course.”, the man replied with a wink and smile. “How’s his outfit?”
The lady examined her son’s clothing then she nodded.
“Yes, it’s good.” She walked out. “Come along now! We don’t want to be late for our lord.”
Behind her back, the man rolled his eyes and put his son down. Once on the ground, the toddler stumbled toward the front door.
The car ride over to the church was pretty uneventful. The little boy wasn’t listening to his parents bickering in the front, he was fascinated by the trees rolling by, yet the clouds being seemingly suspended and frozen in the sky. He held out his hands and tried to grab the birds, freely flying across the beautiful blue sky.
Once inside the church, the little boy held his mother’s hand and followed her. The outside of the church was colossal and grand. It towered over the little boy. A statue stood over the entrance. It was of winged humans saving Earth's people from certain doom while the rest had already met their demise. They all wore faces filled with utter terror, as they were burning and being eaten by horrifying monsters. Each time the boy saw this statue, he’d start to cry and his parents would scold him for it. This time would be different! He put on his brave face and stared down the statue as he walked in, but he held back the tears. His mother and father didn’t notice.
Once inside, he thought he was going to have an easier time, but he had forgotten that inside there were monsters here too. Big paintings of the monsters were hung on the walls. Luckily, they were much less scary than the statue.
They sat down and listened to a man in a robe speak. The boy was so bored that he fell asleep, lying his head down on his father’s lap. Each time they needed to stand or sing songs, his mother would elbow him really hard in the shoulder to wake him up. It always happened like this. He’s come home with bruise on his shoulder and it didn’t matter where he sat, his parents forced him to sit in the middle of them so that they could watch his behavior better. He was used to it by now, but sometimes he’d cry on the way back home. He wasn’t allowed to cry at church, people would stare.
He was ecstatic it when they sang the songs, though. He loved to sing. He'd yell out the lyrics of the hymns as loud as he could so he could drown out all the other voices. It was the point of the game for him.
Eventually, his mother took his hand and walked up to the display area. He was confused, they only let people walk up there to get the bread and wine. He wasn’t allowed to go up there because he didn’t have his First Holy Communion yet…
She picked up him in her arms. He was heavy since he wasn’t exactly her little baby anymore, but she could still manage. While in her arms, he stared back at the crowd. Everybody was staring at him and her. He felt a pressure build up in his chest and he wanted to run but he couldn’t. She was holding on too tightly.
He stared up at the wall that was behind the crowd, it had a massive painting of a winged human with a shiny circle around their head. They were impaling a red monster with big horns and a tail. It was like the statue but, much more scary and gruesome!
He felt tears welling up in his eyes and he squirmed to get away. Suddenly, his mom lowered him and submerged his head under water. The few seconds he spent under there felt like an hour, but he was soon pulled out.
He coughed violently for a while after. The pastor gave him a speech he could barely hear or focus on.
The car ride home was terrible. He was so scared of the monsters and confused by the water. He sobbed quietly, trying not to bother his parents who were still bickering to each other.
CHAPTER 8
Dimitri became accustomed to living with us after 3 weeks of residing here. However, he was really weird about being seen with me outside of the house. I took the bus to school but he’d still walk there. When he did take the bus, he would avoid me like the plague and get off at completely random stops.
It was obvious that he was paranoid. Constantly looking over his shoulder, keeping a distance from people when he could, and when he had to be around people, he had his hood up and ignored everyone. Being invisible was his goal. I hated it.
He was hiding something from me.
Thursday night, after school. Dimitri went to the basement and I went to my room. I was finishing up my homework when I got stumped by a math problem. I went down to see him, hoping he could help me out.
I slowly crept down the stairs to his room. I caught him at his desk working on robots and wearing glasses. I rarely ever see him wear them, but I really liked them. It made him look so sophisticated and intelligent. He was already really smart, but it made him look the part too.
He looked up at me as I got closer.
“What’s up, angel girl?” He asked.
I giggled. “Oh, why do you keep calling me that?”
“Because you are an angel.” He smiled.
My heart melted. Usually, he was so robotic in his actions and speech but it was so cute to see him smile with out forcing it.
I pulled up a chair and sat next to him. I asked him for help with the homework and he effortlessly solved it, and then taught me the process step-by-step. He was much more help than the teacher was. After we solved that one, we just kept going through all of the other questions I didn't get.
After that was done, I didn’t want to leave him just yet. I liked his company.
“Hey Dimitri… Thank you.” I hugged him.
He didn’t say anything, he just gave me a small smile and nodded. He put his arms around me and I felt his heart beating fast in his chest. I let go of him after a few seconds.
“I was wondering though…” I began to explain to him that I thought weird to be so paranoid out in public and I was wondering why he acted that way.
He was visibly nervous, he started tapping his fingers on the desk and darting his eyes around.
“I can’t tell you… It’s better if people don’t see us hanging out in public… I tried to get you to avoid me at school but you didn’t get the message so I gave up.”
“But why?” I asked, confused as ever.
“You’ll throw me out of the house if you knew- He paused. ...You’d hate me…Oh, Safara.. I’m so sorry.” He was expressionless but hints of remorse were seeping in.
“Dimitri… You can tell me anything. I won’t ever hate you.” I put my hand on his shoulder.
He sighed. “Safara. I’m targeted. I’m dangerous. Being around me might make you targeted too. I don’t want you to be hurt, so I try to avoid you and others in public.”
“I-I'm not following. Can you explain more?"
He bowed his head in shame. “I’m the son of Tony Drey. Remember the story I told you at the park? It was about him.”
I gasped. “You’re father was a mob boss?!”
He nodded. “Yeah… He did terrible things… He’s infamous throughout this entire city. His claim to fame was being elected to office as representative of this district of the city. He was passing laws that corrupt the governmental system. He was a well known anarchist and his plan was to dismantle all government. Though, he did much, much, more before that.
He did pretty much everything. Prostitution, drug dealing, robbery, scamming, and yes… he murdered people. He didn't do it himself, though… At least I don’t think he did.
It’s complicated. Basically, he was the leader of his own gang, but it was well organized, so calling it a gang would be an insult. It was a full blown mafia and criminal organization. Everything was run by him and he had loyal followers.
Then he was caught… Put on trial and sent to jail. That's when a woman came out saying that they were seduced by him and had his kids. My mother was devastated but whatever, fuck her.” He said the last part with hatred staining his words.
“Anyways, he was imprisoned and put on death row. He’s still there. He has to serve his 20 year term before he does.” He continued on. “And you’d think my troubles and there but they don’t. That fucker and I look the same!”
I pulled out my phone and quickly googled Tony Drey and I found his mug shot. What stunned me the most is that Dimitri was completely right. They were very similar, but there were some obvious differences too. Tony had green eyes, opposed to Dimitri’s blue, with dark black hair that was beginning to turn white, Dimitri’s was brown. Their haircuts were different, Dimitri’s was longer and a lot messier. Not to mention his dad had stubble and, well, Dimitri was lacking there.
“Yeah… He sure does look like you. Family resemblance…” ////*********************/////
“Exactly. But yeah my looks cause a lot of problems… You see, his followers want me to take his place because that his “official” son would be the heir to the throne and It pisses me off. I don’t want to be that. I want to be a police officer to put sickos like him
in prison where they belong. But not only do I have weirdos forcing me to give them orders, but I also have other people trying to kidnap me for ransom, and some who just want to kill me. So ya know the bruises and cuts on my body when you see me at school?”
I nodded weakly.
“That’s them starting fights with him and I need to protect myself. I fight back. That’s why I can’t have anybody hand out with me ever. But…” He avoided eye contact with me. “It’s so lonely isolating yourself from every one… I longed for somebody to confide in and you came to me. I wanted you to go but I wanted you there with me. It was a guilty pleasure to have you around.” He blushed a little. “I really appreciated our little chats, but I was so shy I could barely talk to you… and now I’m living with you. It’s a dream come true to have a friend like you with me Safara.”
“Oh Dimitri… That’s so sweet.” I was so touched. I was smiling and blushing hard.
“But yeah… I couldn’t bare to see my angel get hurt. You can’t be with t school or in public. I think people are watching me… And once they find out we’re friends they’ll try to hut you so they can hurt me. People are cruel, Safara, they’d attack you even if you are innocent.”
“But Dimitri, you can’t just let them rule over your life like this. You should call the police and get on the witness protection program!”
“You think I haven’t tried that? The cops in this city don’t care. This district is so corrupt, nobody cares about anything you do. That’s how my dad got into power, that’s why the crime rate is so high here.” He rolled his eyes.
“What if I helped?” I shot up the idea suddenly.
“And how would you do that?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Dimitri, what if I could fight along side you? You can’t fight them alone. They’ll over power you someday.” I held his hand in mine and squeezed it. “You said you didn’t want me to get hurt, well, I don’t want you to get hurt or killed either. I want to protect you…”
He was speechless for a moment. He was touched by it obviously because his whole face turned red and he didn’t look at me in the eyes for the rest of the conversation.
“I can’t let you fight for me… If you get hurt, it’s my fault. But… I like the idea.”
“You could train me how to fight! I took karate classes as a kid and self defense!” I pleaded with him.
“I can’t teach you but I can bring you to the guy who taught me… But Safara, this is serious. You sure about it? It’s painful and it will take a lot of time for you to get good.” He explained with a dead pan tone.
“I want to be there for you Dimitri.”
I sealed myself to him in that moment and from then on, we were stuck together.
I was his and he was mine. I was naive. I saw a troubled young man who’d lived a hard life and I just wanted to save him. He called me his angel, and I felt the burden of living up to that title. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I wasn’t ready but I didn’t care. I was there to help. That’s what I thought I was doing.
Little did I know then, but the time Dimitrius and I would spend together would be the worst years of my life because from that day forward, I was brought into his suffering and I would not drown and suffocate in it until out mission was over.
That was the day I became an honorary mafia kid.
SIDE CHAPTER 2
-CRYING-
His mother stopped giving him attention. He’d come home to the sound of weeping or sobbing. At first he didn’t understand. He thought that once people reached adulthood, they stopped crying. He was hoping that would the case for him at least.
He knocked on on his mother’s bed room door. She ignored him, the crying just got louder, so he let himself in.
“Mommy, why are sad?” He whined as he walked over to her.
She was hunched over on the bed, pulling out her hair. She turned to look at him. Her face was so ugly when she cried. Tears staining her pillow and her face showing all the pain she feels inside. The little took a few steps back, frightened by his own mother’s appearance. Gestured to him to come closer. He hesitated but he did so. He sat next to her on the bed and he hugged and caressed his dirty blond hair.
“Dimitrius… Sometimes adults get sad too. Everybody has a different way of coping with sadness.” She explained.
“What’s coping?” He asked.
“Everybody is different and everybody needs to take of themselves.” She brushed off his question. “Mommy needs alone time, dearest.” She kisses him on the forehead.
He got off the bed. “So you want me to leave you alone?”
“Yes dear… I’ll come out and tell you when I feel better, ok?”
“Oh… Ok mommy!” He said as left the room, closing the door behind.
He waited for her to get better.
She never did.
CHAPTER 9
Dimitri Brought me to see one of his dad’s followers. The man was a huge muscular black guy named “Mufa” but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t his real name because he greeted Dimitrius by called him “Damien” instead. Also, he told me that I wasn’t allowed my real name on the streets. I had difficulty coming up with a new name for myself but Dimitrius comforted me and said it was ok for me to take time to think it over. I eventually settled with “Sophia”.
The first time was just basic training for fighting. It was pretty fun. On the way home after it, Dimitri was acting all nervous.
“Hey, um, are you sure about this? You really wanna go back to training?” He asked.
“Yes! Let’s go back twice a week, ok?” I set up our routine and Dimitri just nodded.
That’s what we did together from then on. School, hanging out and training with Mufa. It was so difficult for a while. My body ached but Dimitri was so supportive and he cheered me on. He was always there watching me from the side lines.
One day, we were walking to the candy store after the training when suddenly, a man hit Dimitri in the back with an empty bottle of wine. I jumped when I heard the hard “THUD” and Dimitri’s sharp gasp. It was happening! My first fight. Dimitri coughed and turned around. It was the bottle brothers.
Mufa had mentioned that the bottle brothers were two men from the opposing gang. They used bottles of wine as their weapons, they duel wielded them, using them as basic melee weapon.
The man swung at Dimitri again but this time, he took a step back and got out of the way. I was shaking, distancing myself from them. They ganged up on him. I was so helpless, watching them battering Dimitri.
He got a chance to grab the bottle out of one of their hands and he smashed it on the other brother’s head. I screamed as the bottle shattered in half. He fell to the floor, blood pooling all over with shards of glass all over the ground. This brutality shocked the brother and he froze watching his partner fall to the ground: that was his fatal mistake. Dimitri spun around with the broken bottle griped firmly in his hand and stabbed him in the stomach with the sharp broken part of the bottle.
I couldn’t stand it anymore. I ran off and headed towards the park. Once there, I stopped to take a second to breath. Suddenly, my face was in the dirty. It happened so fast I couldn’t even scream.
“OHMYGODSAFARAAREYOUOK?” Dimitri spoke so fast in panic as he grabbed me by the waist and picked me up.
I was violent yanked off the the ground and held tenderly in his arms. He was trembling as he wiped the dirt off of my face.
I was stunned. I opened my eyes and I could see him, but it was blurry. It took me a few seconds for his anxious face to come into focus.
He swallowed some of his anxiety and held me tighter. “Are you ok? I d-didn’t mean to run into you.”
“Uh-huh.” I nodded slowly. The motion of my head bopping like that made me dizzy.
“Y-you started running after I was done with those guys.” He said.
“No. I’m ok.” I tried talking but it came out raspy and quiet. “I was just scared.”
He nodded and lifted me up. He threw me up into the air and I fell on my back into his arms.
He forced a reassuring smile. “I dealt with them. Let’s go home.”
He walks out of the park carrying me around bridal style. I was really confused by this but my head to much for me to question it.
As we walked home, people stared at us. They gave us weird looks. I glared back at them. Dimitri was doing something nice and people were staring at him like he was kidnapping me. I looked up at his face. He had no emotion on his face. I wasn’t sure if he was noticing it too and didn’t care or if he was oblivious.
I put my arm around his shoulders and hugged him for the rest of the walk.
“Dimitrius…”
“Don’t call me that.” He glared down at me.
“Sorry. My mom once told me you have schizophrenia.” I said.
“Oh? What else did she say?”
“You were diagnosed with it when you were 15.” I curled up to him. “That’s all I know.”
“Oh. Well what about it?” He sounded almost offended, but with him, any tone he has in his voice is best to be left ignored. He always sounds like a robot or a chronically annoyed mumbling teen age boy.
“You hallucinate. Mom said that… Do you hear voices?”
“Um.. Not exactly. Sometimes what people say to me gets mixed up, I mean, they’ll say something and I’ll hear the words out of orders.” He explained.
“What’s it like being schizophrenic?” I asked.
“I don’t know. I’ve had it for such a long time that I’ve gotten used to it.” He replied.
“Oh but what do you hallucinate?”
“Well I can’t tell you that.” He forced a small laugh. It was cute. “You’d think I’m crazy.”
“I’m curious though and I won’t judge you.” I reassured him.
He gave me a cautious look, like he was unsure. I gave him puppy dog eyes and that convinced him. He stoped walked and pointed at a group of men.
“Well, right there, there are 3 demons talking to each other.” He said.
“Demons? There 3 guys.”
“They are all black and shadowy. They have arrow shaped tails and big horns. Their eyes and mouths are like light poking through the darkness.” He described as he continued walking.
“So… You seem demons.”
“Yep. Every stranger is a demon to me.”
“Was I a demon when we met?” I asked, kneading my fingers in his hoodie.
“Yes.” He looked down at me. “But you turned into an angel as we got to know each other.”
“Wait what? I’m an angel?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Well aren’t you?” He said with concern.
“I’m a human, Dimitri.”
“B-but you have wings and a halo, you’re so beautiful and shiny… you’re an angel.”
My heart fell into my stomach but I also felt the butterflies fly around in there too. I didn’t know if Dimitri think this about me would be dangerous or if I should be flattered.
“Do you really see me like this?” I asked trying not to sound nervous.
“Yeah. All the time.”
“Hey Dimitri, do you know that your hallucinations aren’t real, right?”
He glared at me. No filter, no held back emotions, he looked actually angry. For real.
“You can walk.” He said and dropped me at on the ground.
I fell down right on my butt. He stepped aside and walked away. It really hurt but seeing him leave me hurt more. I jumped up and I was about to yell at him but I stoped. I lowered my fist.
I remember what my mother said to me. To be careful with him.
Schizophrenics can be really dangerous if you don’t treat them right…
I cocked my head to the side and grinned. Just trying to push it aside. I walked up to him.
“I wonder what it’s like to see how you see the world… It must be interesting.” I said cheerfully, but I was trying not to punch him with all my might.
He looked up. “I could show you, but it’s a little risky.”
I snapped out of my anger and stared at him in confusion. “Wait… How?”
“I did it once before, but if we do it, you need to follow my instructions very carefully.”
“what do we have to do to achieve it?”
“Well, it’s like a ritual… It helped you see inside of the other person’s head. You drink some water in a dark room and the person who want to share their mind has to describe everything to the other person.” He paused for a second and stared at me. “It relies on imagination.”
“Oh… so it’s not actually going into somebody’s mind?” He smirked “No that’s scientifically impossible, but this ritual is as close to it as it gets. Do you want to try it?”
“Sure, why not?” I shrugged.
“Ok! I’m gonna run off to the store and buy some candles. Go home with out me, ok?” He said as he ran off.
“Dimitri! Wait!” I called out to him but he was already gone.

Dear readers,
I’m pleased to inform you that I have passed the princess approval test. Teeth were brushed, laughter was about and she even made friends with a furry companion the size of an adult bear. All and all it was a lovely, sunny Sunday and I can’t wait to bring her along on my adventures of today, which will include.. sheep herding!
Now you may wonder why a news reporter would go sheep herding, but did you know that Jersey used to have its own, very unique Jersey sheep? Through some unfortunate neglect and misunderstanding these sheep went extinct and now their four or six-horned heads no longer graze about. But! As per usual, we humans found out a century or so later, that these sheep and their many horns were a blessing to keep the nature on the island healthy, and thus they were re-introduced. Albeit this time in the shape of a fewer horned, more human friendly Manx Loaghtan herd, whom we’ll be meeting today.
I cannot wait to see if my fellow Alice has a knack for befriending other furry creatures as well, so keep your horns and fingers crossed - we’re going on an adventure!
Ali
The jeep tumbled and shook as it drove over the bumpy country road, the habited world slowly coming back into view. A welcome view too, because we had a fun, but also truly exhausting day. Little Alice had drifted into a slumber, her small body leaning heavily into my chest as she clambered onto a pair of fresh wool socks she had received as her gift.
I could only imagine what she’d be dreaming of right now. Probably, it involved lots of chasing of and cuddling with sheep. I yawned and watched with blinking eyes as Maddie and Frank’s house finally came into view, the afternoon late when we finally arrived.
‘Thanks Jonny.’ I smiled at the friendly bearded man behind the steering wheel.
‘Sure thing Ali. It was fun having you two…’ He hesitated, seeing the toddler as she was still far away in dreamland. ‘..You know what. Let me help you out with that.’ He winked, quickly swinging open his door and moving to the other side of the jeep. I sighed a quiet thanks as he pulled open the door, effortlessly scooping up the small girl from my arms.
‘Up you go! Hello little Alice. Looks like you’re home!’ He cheered, putting the sleep muddled toddler on her legs. I slipped out of my seat and thanked him again, my arms swiftly lifting Alice back on my hip before she’d fall right asleep on the sidewalk.
‘Well have a good one! Looking forward to the article.’ Jonny said, brushing some of the toddler’s hair out of her face. A sweet gesture.
‘I’ll make sure to send you a copy. Good night Jonny.’ I waved him off and turned around, my eyes catching some movement a little distance away, at the opposite side of the street.
And not just any movement. It was a dumbstruck, frozen-in-place, Henry, his large blue eyes blinking at me. He was clearly confused, his eyes briefly slipping away from me to look at the truck as it drove off into the distance.
‘Hey!’ I waved, a bit unsure of what to do. I could only figure what he was thinking right now; a man, a kid?! That’s not really quite the image you had sketched the other day. Biting my bottom lip I quickly crossed the street, walking up to him, tired toddler snugly held onto my chest.
Henry remained quiet as his eyes now moved to the girl in my arms, her bright blue eyes giving him a studious glare.
‘Hey..’ I repeated, trying to grasp his attention, my smile a tad awkward as I pulled up the toddler a bit higher on my hip - she sure was getting heavy!
‘Hi.’ He swallowed, quickly hiding something behind his back.
‘You probably wonder what the heck is going on.’ I bit my lip, looking down at Alice, his response a mere nod of the head. ‘..Maddie, my friend, had to rush to the mainland to help out her mom, so I offered to help out and watch over her little princess.’
Alice looked up at me, her eyes sparkling with passion. ‘I’m no princess!’ She muttered. ‘I’m a sheep herder!’
Henry’s pensive face broke into a tender smile, watching the little girl as she snuggled back into my chest. ‘I see.’ He let out a quiet sigh. ‘Sorry..I didn’t mean to..bother you..I was just..-’
‘In the neighbourhood?’ I laughed, nodding at the house. ‘Come inside. I need to put this sheep herder down before I break my back.’
‘Alright. The sheep herding princess is..asleep!’ I cheered, plopping down on the couch next to Henry, our bellies filled with food and the evening young.
‘Good. I eh..wanted to show you something by the way...Here.’ Henry said, offering me a piece of paper, our fingertips touching as I took it from him, my nose immediately scrunching up when I noticed what it was.
The pact.
‘Oh. My. Word.’ I started laughing aloud, studying the hand drafted “contract”, both our names and signatures neatly placed at the bottom. ‘How old is this even?’ I gasped. ‘Pff..well..we were what..thirteen? Something like that? I just started senior school.’ ‘Dearness me. Oh, I actually saw your mom yesterday and she was being particularly vague; “You would never guess what Henry asked of me yesterday” she said, and then she added that you’d probably wish to show it yourself… Very..very mysterious.’
‘Well, I’m a mysterious man.’ Henry winked at me, reaching out for his glass of red wine and finishing the last sip.
‘Hardly.’ I retorted, smiling. I watched him for a moment as he sat back in the soft couch, his large frame sporting a tight and comfy cable knit sweater. He looked so huggable. Ugh! What a teddybear of a man he was.
He raised a careful eyebrow, testing me. ‘Well, dear Ali, do indulge me.’
‘You work crazy hard and live a crazy A-lister lifestyle. But all you really want..’ I pointed at the contract. ‘..is rainbow coloured dreams. And..’ I pointed at his finished glass of red wine, shrugging.  ‘..perhaps another glass of red wine.’
Our eyes met, our lips curled into masks of friendshiply banter, but the underlying tone clear. We had been sweethearts before. Many times actually, our paths having crossed in every stage throughout our lives. Sometimes just being tight knit friends. Sometimes more. Could we do it again?
‘I didn’t bring a rainbow coloured pen this time, though.’ Henry said, gesturing me to look at a paper that was hidden beneath the initial contract. I furrowed my brow and turned over the paper, finding a new contract.
A..a real marriage contract.
I blinked, studying the document, then looked over at Henry, my face stricken with confusion.
He smiled sweetly, reaching out his fingertips to caress my hand, the pads of his fingers callus and warm. ‘I know your previous lovers had some..commitment issues. So.’ He shrugged casually. ‘I just thought it better to show you I’m not one of them.’
‘Wh..’ My voice croaked, my throat suddenly very dry and my heart buzzing like a humming bird. ‘W-what?’
HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT!!
‘Well, we pinky swore, remember?’ He chuckled. ‘And..of course I’ll let you off if you do not want to give me a shot. But..’ He sighed, smiling. ‘..it sure is funny how we keep running back into one another, right?’
I finally managed to get some of my breath back, the contracts now lowered on my lap, my eyes studying him, face serious.
‘Really? Is this a joke Henry? Tell me this is a joke.’
‘Do I look like I’m joking?’ He asked, looking indeed quite..serious. I swallowed and put the papers on the table, right in between our wine glasses, the air so very thick in my lungs.
‘Hmm..’ I licked my lips, curious and slightly unsure eyes looking back at Henry. ‘I don’t really believe in fairytales Hen.’ I shook my head, my mind reeling.
‘You don’t have to. I’m being real Ali. I am.’
‘A contract doesn’t suddenly make a relationship work, Hen. You should know that better than anyone.’ I shook my head, wanting all of this to make sense. Why me? Why now? Why here? Why, why, why?!
‘I’m not asking you to sign it. I’m just showing you the commitment you seek. I want it Ali, I do.’
My heart was near jumping out of my chest as his words floated through the quiet living room, an open fire crackling somewhere in the background. I blinked again, still quite dumbstruck.
This was going way too fast. When I had said that the clock was ticking I didn’t mean; come make babies with me right this instant. Right? Right?! The past few years our only contact had been through over seas phone calls and Whatsapp messages. Heck. We hadn’t even kissed since we reacquainted two days ago and sleeping together? I think we hadn’t done that in..what? Ten years?
My eyes moved over him, his body folded into the corner of the couch, large chest leaning forward, eyes hopeful. He was obviously trying to keep a friendly distance, though the wish to move closer was clear. Move closer to..to…You sighed, eyes now moving towards his lips. Those sweet, full cupid bowed lips.
‘You better kiss me real good, Cavill.’ You whispered, looking back up into his eyes.
It was an invitation he didn’t need to be given twice.

Your name was being shouted from a distance. You turned your head, seeing your mother calling you back into the house. Closing your sketchbook, you got up, dusting your pants before making your way back in.
“Really, you shouldn’t be outside too long,” your mother half-heartedly scolded you.
“Why not? We’re in the countryside. There are no neighbors for miles and miles away,” You rebuttal, a little upset that you had to come in.
Your mother merely raises her brow at you. “You’re getting a bit more of an attitude every day, missy. I didn’t say anything when you got your tattoos, but no sass-mouthing me.”
She says it so jokingly that you can’t help but smile along.
“It’s going to rain today,” you say, and your mother seems confused.
“Really? The weatherman said it’ll be sunny all day,” she muses.
“It will rain,” you confirm.
“Best get the laundry in then,” your mother rushes off.
You grin, watching your mother runoff. Your family was wealthy with your father running his own company, but even so, you lived in a beautiful house out in the countryside, away with people and no hired help. Well, you used to have a maid at least, but she had quit saying the countryside was not settling well with her body. Your family paid her a lot of hush money.
Your family adored you, and when they discovered your strange gift, it really worried them what could happen to you if anyone knew.
The worry that people would take you, want to experiment on you, or take advantage of you pushed your parents to make the decisions they did.
So, you and your family took care of your daily things while your father would go run his company, often coming home late at night.
It was a simple life.
Everything was good.
Or so you thought.
“I just...I don’t know what we’re going to do. I may have to claim bankruptcy. We’re hardly making the payments we need to do. The company just keeps getting worse, and I don’t understand why. I had to lay off 80 people today. I’ve closed down many factories in the last month.”
You stood quietly at the door, slightly ajar for you to peer in to see your father in a stressed state as your mother tried to comfort him.
“Should we move back into the city?” Your mother suggests, but your father shook his head.
“No, it’s worse for our daughter out there. You know that. There are too many people and sounds. It triggers the visions.”
Your mother purses her lips but agrees. They sigh stressfully together, your mother’s head on your father’s shoulder.
“We’ll figure it out, darling, we always do.”
It made you feel awful.
That night you stared at the ceiling in bed, praying an answer would come.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
You were in the field again, resting against the tree, sketching the view before you.
It was peaceful, but in the sense that it’s the calm before the storm. You were anxious.
Last night, you were getting horrible visions of a man in a fiery crash. He was stuck in the vehicle, screaming a name you couldn’t hear. The vehicle caught on fire, and there was so much blood.
The crash had disfigured his face, but his expression haunted you.
You weren’t sure what to do with it because you didn’t know who this man, where he was, or when it was happening.
Hell, you couldn’t make out his face without the blood and shards of glass.
A part of you wasn’t sure if maybe you were just having nightmares.
But the same vision kept coming over and over the next few nights. You were getting ragged, and your parents could tell.
They were happening more frequently, with more details each time, but it wasn’t like you had any more understanding.
You spent a day, just trying to mimic what the man was saying in the car before he died. Your mouth followed his movements, but you weren’t getting anywhere.
You felt like you were going to go crazy, watching the same man dying.
It kept going, and going, and going, and going, and going...
Until one day, it stopped.
A part of you was relieved, but there was a drop in your stomach wondering if it stopped because it happened, and it was no longer a future possibility.
The days were peaceful once more.
Well, as can be. You could tell your parents were getting more stressed as they were running out of money, getting closer, and closer to bankruptcy.
You were sure the peaceful days were coming to an end, and you felt so guilty you couldn’t do more.
“--rry, I’m just really lost. How do I get back to the main road?”
You turned your head, stretching to see a tall, handsome man with a couple dirt stains on his suit.
He looked shy.
Your mother merely laughed at his sheepish boyish grin.
“Well, let me draw you a map. Why don’t you come in and grab some tea? Must’ve been some adventure, huh?”
The man laughed and walked inside.
You quietly crawled through the tall flowers, peering inside the kitchen glass door to see the man sit down.
You tilted your head to the side, observing him.
He was obviously wealthy, catching his Rolex watch on his wrist.
You did find it a little weird for someone to get lost here. This was quite out of the way of anything.
He turned his head, and then your eyes met.
He looked shocked, mouth agape.
He actually flushed and looked away.
Since you were caught, you stood up, coming through the side door of the kitchen. Your mother looked shocked to see you. Even a little wary.
“This is my daughter,” Your mother told the man, introducing you.
The man stood abruptly up, coughing slightly as he stuck his hand out towards you.
“I’m William Cain.”
Your mother hummed. “Your dad doesn’t happen to own Cain Holdings, does he?”
William nodded, and your mother gave him a sympathetic smile.
“I heard about the accident. I’m really sorry to hear about him.”
William merely thanked her with a half-smile before looking back at you. You tilted your head down, looking a the map your mother drew and hummed.
Grabbing the pen, you re-drew the path he should take.
“Is it wrong?” Your mother asked.
“No, but...the roads are tricky over there. It is best he takes this route back to the main road.” You quietly say, passing the sheet of paper to him with a small smile. “It was nice to meet you.”
And then you left. Your mother is someone that doesn’t like you meeting strangers, so it’d be best to limit interactions.
She heard small noises from downstairs, but soon, William was on his way.
She thought that was the end of that.
Until he showed up again.
And then again, and again, and again.
The next couple of times, he came with small gifts like chocolate, cookies, or little trinkets, saying it was a thank you for helping him.
The next couple of times, he would come up with ridiculous lies to say he was visiting.
One day, he merely said he wanted to see you.
Then the reasons no longer mattered.
You couldn’t classify that you were in love with William, your heart just didn’t feel that way. But you weren’t unsatisfied to be with him. Especially knowing he could help your father.
Before you knew it, he wanted to whisk you away, back to his estate. He thinks you just have a frail body, which is why you’re in the countryside. He promises your parents of a quiet place for you, where you can still have fresh air, and lots of room to draw and paint.
He promises a partnership for your father’s company.
And with your reassurance, they hand you to him.
“Don’t tell William about your abilities, dear,” your mother tells you as she helps you pack your clothes. “I know he loves you, but you never know.”
You nod, feeling your throat burn as your about to leave your parents.
“We can visit at any time. Heck, we may even decide to move back to the city,” your mother tries to reassure you, but you’ll miss her anyways.
With hugs and kisses goodbye, a final piece of advice, you part ways with your family.
Never to see them again.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
William’s place is quiet.
Much more quiet than you had expected. There are no pictures on the wall, only paintings and trinkets. You meet his mother, who’s just thrilled to have ‘such a young, graceful lady around.’
She seems sweet but also distant. She looks out the window a lot like she’s expecting someone to come home at any time.
William is still finishing university, it was a wonder how he found so much time to visit you. On top of that, he was busying himself to take over his father’s business.
You’re still getting used to the city air. It’s not quite the same as the countryside, but you find that you don’t mind it at all.
William seems to be keeping you a secret because, as the years pass, you never meet anyone new. You’ve visited your parents rarely, and it seems to be getting more infrequent.
There’s an unsettling fear in your stomach, and you don’t understand why. It feels like you’re being tested. William asks your opinion on everything, trying to gauge your reaction.
You’ll purposely choose the wrong thing or say the wrong thing because your mother’s words can’t escape your head.
You’re now having reoccurring nightmares of the man dying in the car crash again. He’s screaming and screaming, but you can’t hear what he’s saying. Waking up in cold sweats and an empty bed, you’re scared out of your mind.
You want to leave.
So in the dead of night, while William is gone, you sneak into the hallways.
Suddenly, you hear footsteps and noises. Panic overtakes you as you scramble through a door you haven’t been through before. You shut the door, leaning against it as you listened to the footsteps and voices walk right past you.
Sighing in relief, you stood up straighter and turned around. It was dark, but the moonlight outside illuminated the room enough for you to see.
You realized that it wasn’t so much a room, but a hallway. Against the wall were portraits lined up side by side. Walking over, you looked at the photos one-by-one. Typically, this was a room you weren’t allowed to enter. William or a maid always led you away.
This must be generations of men in William’s family, you thought.
You come to the last photo. It must be William’s father. You haven’t really seen a big, clear picture of the man before. Even in news articles, they were always taken from afar.
You stood before the large portrait that seemed to loom down on you, staring at you with his clear features and eyes.
A sharp pain shot through your head as you hissed, hand coming to your eyes as the images rush through your head.
It’s the dying man again.
But you can hear everything this time, see more clearly.
“WILLIAM! WILLIAM!” He screams, desperately trying to unbuckle his seatbelt. The car is incredibly hot, a small fire coming from under the hood with smoke. Shards of glass are stuck in his face, and there’s just so much pain.
He can hear a car door shut just a few feet from him. He turns his head to see his son come up to the window.
“WILLIAM, GET ME OUT OF HERE!” He yells, pulling at his seatbelt again. A truck just came out of nowhere, and the fire was starting to grow.
William stood by the driver’s side, careful to not lean too close with the broken glass as he crouched down, his face stoic.
“You don’t understand our legacy, father. You’re going to ruin everything our family has created for generations.”
His father watched as William got up, walking away without even stumbling.
“WILLIAM! WILLIAM!”
He called and called, but his voice was soon drowned out by the sound of the vehicle exploding.
Your head felt heavy as you were gasping in pain. It was like your right eye was throbbing.
“You know, don’t you?”
You whipped around to see William, who just turned onto the hallway, casually leaning against the wall.
You stumble back a little bit, but then your back hit someone else’s. You turn your head to see Evelyn, the last maid you had.
“Evelyn...? What are you--”
“It’s fine, release her,” William cuts you off.
Evelyn lets go of your shoulders, and William walked to stand before you.
“You know what I did, don’t you?” William says to you again, his arms crossed over his chest.
“N-No, I don’t--” You stuttered.
“Don’t lie,” William tsked at you. “I heard from our little rich circle years ago about your parents who had a darling little girl...but something was off about her, she was always predicting things that happened.”
William uncrossed his arms, lifting his hand to caress a strand of your hair. “I paid Evelyn a lot of money to see if it was true. Then I swept you away...keeping you here to see myself.”
“So,” William drawled, “What else have you seen?”
“N-nothing,” you say, and it’s true, at least nothing related to William.
William merely smiles at you.
“I guess we’ll have to change that.”
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
It was dark.
And cold.
You don’t know how many days you’ve been in this...hole.
Evelyn has taken you deep into the basement. You’re sure you’re well beneath the floor in this cell.
They dropped you in here with no way of getting out.
It felt like you were in a well.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Your screams were echoing.
Arm out as your hands stretched to reach...reach something.
“I don’t like it when you run, don’t you understand that by now?” William’s voice sounded disappointed with you.
The blade he held carved into your skin, and you could feel a warm liquid dribble out and slide down your sides.
“P-Please stop...” you begged with tears in your eyes and throat raw from screaming.
“Don’t run from me anymore.”
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
You were back in the dark.
Knees crouched to your chest, you had your head down.
Evelyn came by, and you were mad at her. Hated her with every fiber of your being.
You want your parents, your parents will know you're missing if they keep visiting and you’re never around.
Evelyn says your parents won’t visit anymore.
You won’t get to see them until you’re dead, she tells you.
You don’t know what to do anymore.
You’ve been in here for weeks. Your back has begun to scab over, but you refuse to give anything to William.
You stare straight ahead, even if you can’t see anything.
You start to wonder if you should give up and join your parents.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
“Still nothing?” William says to you as you’re forced to kneel before him.
He comes up to you and gets down on one knee. Your face is bruised, and he cups it gently like he cares about you.
“I don’t want to treat you like this, you know. I meant what I said to your parents when I said I’d take care of you. You need to let me take care of you.”
You clench your jaw at the mention of your parents, but you don’t say anything.
William moves in to try to brush his lips against yours, but you vehemently turn your head away.
For a second, you think he might hit you again, but he just sighs.
“Evelyn, take her back,” William says, but he turns to you again. “I want you to help me, but if you can’t, I don’t have any problems achieving what I need to without you too. Don’t become useless to me.”
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
Your back rests against the slightly curved wall. Your hair feels matted, and you just feel grimy in general.
William's words keep replaying in your head, but you can’t help but feel hopeless.
You’ve stopped eating the meals Evelyn brings you.
It doesn’t matter anymore, you think.
You stare into the nothingness so long you think you’re eyes have adjusted.
People think that the dark is just black, but it’s not. There are no words to describe the lack of colors around you.
A sharp pain hits your head again as you hiss, bringing your hand to your eye.
The sudden colors are so vivid and bright, it almost hurts you.
You see flashes of red hair, luscious lips, a black suit, and a pair of piercing emerald eyes.
You just see quick flashes of different scenes, but you know one thing for sure.
She’s going to take down William.
“Natasha,” you whisper to yourself as if to test the name on your lips.
It makes you feel warm.
And you get a feeling that you haven’t felt in a long time.
Hope.
⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷⋆⊶⊷⊶⊷⊶⊷
“Then I got myself together...forced myself to give into William and paved his way exactly the way it had to be to bring you here.”
You feel something wet hit your bare back.
Turning your head as far as you can to see tears falling from Natasha’s eyes and it trickles down her face, hitting your back a couple more times.
You wonder if it’s awful to think she looks beautiful when she’s crying too. You turn your body over, Natasha adjusting herself so you can do so.
With your bare chest exposed to her, you lift your hand and cradle her cheek, smiling a little when she presses herself more into your palm.
“Why are you crying?” You ask her softly, using your thumb to wipe a tear that was falling.
“I’ll kill him,” Natasha says, turning her lips into your palm as she kisses the area tenderly.
You chuckle softly because you’re not sure if she really will or not, but it warms your heart nonetheless.
“Do you want to know something interesting?” You ask, your other hand pulling on her shirt, so Natasha will lean down closer to your lips.
Natasha hums.
“When I saw you...I held onto you. Through every dark night, painful crying, and feeling so wretched...I remembered you.” You whispered as Natasha’s lips got closer. Your thumb stroked the softness of her cheek as Natasha gripped onto your sides tightly, screwing her eyes shut as you told her what she meant to you.
“You’re such a beautiful color, Natasha. You’re the soft blue that comforted me, the yellow that brought me happiness, a pure white that gave me light the darkness, and the green that brought me hope. Do you understand me?”
You’re so desperate for her to understand.
Because without her, you would’ve never made it out alive, and you need her to know that.
Your lips brush against Natasha’s as her body lines up with yours. You shiver, feeling her cover your chest.
“You saved me.”
Natasha won’t let you say anymore as her lips crashes onto yours, but you feel her emotions dripping into you as she kisses you deeply. Her grip loosens as she pushes her arms under your back to hold you closer.
“You’re mine,” is all Natasha can say.

GF + OH - Fallen Owls pt.1
Summary: What happens when the milf of The Owl House meets the dilf of Gravity Falls? Find out in this multi-chapter crossover fic.
pt.2
~~~~~~~~~~
Episode Placement:
GF = after finale (S3?) OH = between S1E5 and E6 It was late, passed the gremlins’ bedtime, but it was summer, meaning the term “bedtime” had very little meaning unless Stan was tired and needed to make the kids quiet. But as of right now he was content sitting in his old armchair, boxers and undershirt and slippers and all, munching on popcorn with his family, sitting around telling stories. Stan and his twin brother, Ford, had just finished telling Dipper and Mabel more about the sirens they had faced a few months ago. While sailing around the world was a dream come true, it was nice to take a break to spend the summer with the niblings.
Dipper, having just heard how Stan had been charmed by the sirens’ song, chuckled and asked, “So, did you ever have any luck finding ‘babes’?” Stan rubbed the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. “Nah, but there’s always next year.” “Yeah, don’t worry about it, Grunkle Stan.” Mabel said as she popped some popcorn into her mouth. “You’ll find some pretty girl that is everything you deserve!” Stan, turning red, waved the subject away. “Thanks, sweetie, but it’s fine.” Ford, sitting on the dino-skull, elbowed him lightly and teased, “He’s still heartbroken over Carla McCorckle.” Mabel blew a raspberry. “If I ever find her I’m gonna give her a left-hook and break her nose!” Stan laughed and ruffled her hair. “That’s not necessary, kid. I’m over her.” “And it only took you forty years.” Ford added, earning him a punch on the shoulder. “I’ll have you know I’ve been with plenty of gals after Carla!” Stan quipped. “Heck, I was married once when I was traveling the country!” “Wait, what?!” The whole room gasped at the same time. Ford blinked like a confused owl. “I… I didn’t know that.” “Me, neither.” Mabel said and leaned on Stan’s knee. Dipper, meanwhile, was silent, a memory coming to mind. “Truth is I’ve been divorced once and slapped more times than I can remember.” “What happened? GASP! Do I have a secret Graunty you never told me about?!” Stan barked a laugh. “Hah! No, sorry pumpkin. I was actually married for less than a day. Vegan situation. We reached for the same slot machine handle and it was love at first sight. Marilyn. Had hair like a airline stordis and a neon pink shirt that said ‘Over thirty and very flirty’. Man I was, I was putty in her hands.” Stan said lightly, recalling the most romantic evening he ever had. “You should’ve seen the way she threw dice. One time right at my head. Turns out she only married me to distract me while she stole my car and my winnings. I guess her name was fake and, hair was fake. But ya know, the love was real.” Stan added with a casual shrug. “She was really the one that got away. Like, literally, it was a proper get away. She was chased by cop cars for a mile out of Vegas before ducking out of a door and into a canyon and making off with my loot. Sometimes I still think of her.” The old conman admitted. “That pale bingo hall skin. That one weirdly sharp tooth.” Stan’s face dropped at the sight of his family and he quickly said, “Sorry, I’m getting nostalgic.” “More like love-sick.” Dipper teased. “AW!” Mabel squealed. “That’s so sweet! Maybe you’ll find her one day!” Stan laughed and shook his head. “I doubt it, sweetie, but hey. Who needs stealing babes when I’ve got you three, right?” Mabel yawned and stretched her arms over her head. Ford chuckled and stood up, popping his back. “I think you two should head to bed. It’s getting late and we’re going camping tomorrow, remember?” Mabel gasped happily and stood. “You’re right!” She hugged both her uncles and wished them goodnight and then walked with her brother up the stairs for the attic, then Ford left to go finish packing, leaving Stan alone. He leaned on his knuckles, elbow on his armchair, and he remembered Marilyn. ~~~~~~~~~~ Mabel was grinning from ear to ear as she skipped ahead on the trail in the woods. “Finally, a real family camping trip!” Grunkle Ford, Dipper, and Grunkle Stan were right behind her, the Pines family heading back to the Mystery Shack after a fun night sleeping under the stars around a campfire. They were all smiling and happy to be reunited for the summer. While some things drastically changed and some things hardly changed at all, the Pines in appearance changed a little since Dipper and Mabel and turned thirteen. Mabel had always been nothing but smiles in the past, but if it was even possible she grinned even more now, proud to show off her braces-free white teeth. She still sported amazing sweaters with colorful headbands and skirts, today wearing a brown skirt and a yellow headband with a light-brown sweater with an owl on it, claiming she wanted to match the woods and her Grunkle Ford; he only proved her point when he blushed. Dipper and Wendy switched hats again when they saw each other when the twins came off the bus, but over his orange t-shirt he wore a green flannel unbuttoned and he matched it with blue jeans. No longer out in the freezing Arctic, Stan left behind his long coat, but he kept his white t-shirt, dark pants, red beanie, and water-proof boots for the hiking trip. Ford, the easily cold twin, still wore red turtleneck and dark pants and boots, but his smile was much more genuine and the crack in his glasses was gone. Grunkle Ford patted his niece’s shoulder. “It is nice to have some quality family bonding.” “Next time I say we go fishing.” Stan injected. “Not as many creepy spider-fires or whatever.” “Scampfires.” “I still say whatever.” Dipper chuckled and continued to sketch in his pinetree journal, shading in trees of his drawing of the woods. But he was pulled from his pleasant thoughts by his great-uncle. “Seriously, kid, you’re gonna walk into a tree and then I’m gonna laugh. You need to get your head outta book and see the rest of the world.” “Grunkle Stan, how do you think people shared the world back in your day? You know, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth?” Dipper quipped. “Oh, ho! Wise guy, huh?” Stan wrapped an arm around his neck and rubbed his knuckles on the top of his head. “Alright, Poindexter Jr…” “No! No nuggies!” “Yes nuggies!” “Ford!” Dipper laughed, calling for backup. Mabel, meanwhile, was slowly being pulled away mentally from the touching scene of guys being dudes as the internet would have called it. Distracting her, a tiny brown owl with cute round eyes was hopping. Not just hopping, appearing from behind one oak tree to the neck, but hopping with a sack clamped by the beak. Mabel watched it with wide eyes, hoping for another look, and the second glance she got of it was so brief she didn’t know how much faith she should have in her eyes, but it looked like that sack had things like a Cubic Cube, a newspaper, a floppy disk, a basketball, and other items that could be classified as junk. Mabel decided not to wait for another glance at the owl and to go look at it for herself. Mabel wandered off the path animals had made and moved in between trees and bushes quietly. Her brown eyes eventually landed on the little owl and she followed it; the clattering of the owl or it’s determination to finish it’s job must have been the reason why it didn’t hear Mabel and try to hide or lose her. The young Pines lady watched, walking farther and farther away from her family, and the owl hopped behind a tree and never emerged. Mabel smiled, thinking she was about to find an owl’s nest in the tree or a stash of human things by the tree’s roots, but when she turned to look behind the tree, she gasped to find a doorway that glowed white. Mabel looked around her for anyone that might have an answer or for any clue as to why this doorway was here, but she was alone. Gravity Falls certainly was where this sort of thing might happen, but that did not guarantee that this was safe. Maybe she should have the guys look at this thing. Mabel turned around, her back to the doorway, to leave, but she saw something above her and took in a sharp breath. Stan had Dipper pinned on the grass now, both of them laughing, with Ford shaking his head and scolding lightly. “Stanley, that’s enough.” “Don’t worry, Grunkle Ford, I promise not to break such an old man.” Dipper teased as he lightly fought back, “Old man?!” Stan repeated in pretend offense. They were interrupted by a blood curdling scream that made their hearts drop. Stan immediately got off of his nephew and stared ahead, terrified. “Mabel…” And he ran for the direction he heard the scream with Ford and Dipper at his heels. Mabel pulled her grappling hook out of her hiking-backpack and tried to calm down, but it was hard to with the dangerous anomaly liking it’s chops at the sight of her. It was like a gray lizard, but ten feet long, including the tail, and only on it’s four legs it was seven feet tall. It’s eyes were red and narrow and cold, and it had long sharp claws like a dragon’s and a long snout like a crocodile. Mabel shot her grappling hook at the monster and it hit it on the snout, tossing its head back. The lizard hissed but did not back down. It advanced, getting closer to Mabel, and she wanted to back away, but she was careful not to touch the spooky doorway. Stan saw the scene first, appearing out of the corner of Mabel’s eye. “Mabel!” “Grunkle Stan, what do I do?!” She asked, her eyes glued to the giant lizard. Ford and Dipper caught up. The younger moved to jump between his sister and the monster, but Ford stopped him with a firm six-fingered hand. “No! Listen to me, Mabel. That thing is called a Stone-Reptilian. They're excellent at camouflaging into mountains and can hang onto a one-hundred-and-eighty degree wall for hours, waiting for its prey. It actually has two tongues: one for licking its eyes since it doesn't have eyelids, and one for paralyzing it’s dinner and dragging the meal into its mouth.” “So what do I do?!” Mabel begged, shaking a little at the idea of being paralyzed and then eaten alive. “Mabel, stay calm, it’s alright.” Ford soothed with a voice as soft as silk. “Stone-Reptilians have excellent eyesight, but they’re deaf. Notice how it’s isn’t reacting to us. Now, I want you to…” The Stone-Reptilian suddenly whipped out it’s long, thorn-covered tongue to paralyze Mabel, but she was too quick and leaped through the doorway to survive. As she did, it disappeared, and the Pines men were left to scream and then fight for their own lives. ~~~~~~~~~~ “Whoops, can’t have another stowaway, can I?” A voice said, and then before Mabel knew it, her way back home was gone. She observed her new surroundings. Misfit things like a refrigerator, a grandfather clock, an old mattress, and cardboard boxes full of items cluttered what looked like a big tent, judging by the cloth walls and such. Mabel smiled with wonder at the things. “Wow. What a collection.” She whispered. Her eyes landed on a small glass ballerina on top of a music box. She turned the ballerina around with a finger to catch a few music notes. Mabel smiled, but was once again distracted. “Right, let’s see here… Nope. Garbage. Garbage. Another one of these? Oh, well. Good thing the potions have been selling. I should really thank Luz for helping me take out that competitor. Or not.” Mabel covered her mouth with both hands to keep from snorting; that sounded like something her Grunkle Stan would say. Her heart sagged a little and she turned to look back at where the magical doorway once was. Despite what he might pretend, Mabel knew Stan would be really worried about her. She needed to find a way back home. She crawled on her hands and knees out from under the tent and then got up to explore. “Okay, let’s see…” Mabel looked around to find herself outside in the open air. She raised an eyebrow. “The… Crawlspace? I thought it was underground? Maybe there’s more to it! Won’t Grunkle Ford be surprised!” Mabel cheered and looked around for anything familiar, but the longer she looked, the more she realized nothing was like back in Gravity Falls. She stood at the edge of a cliff, overlooking an odd city of some kind. Giant monster hands with no body stood like trees. Smoke rose from chimneys of medieval-looking houses. A small herd of cat-sized dragons flocked by the clouds. A mammoth roared like a lion and then walked into the ocean. Something resembling an orange nun was selling bags of oozing red stuff to tiny red monsters with teeth and fangs for a face. People were riding a giant caterpillar from inside its mouth and then kissing it for a toll. Mabel’s heart was racing from excitement and fear. Nothing here was familiar, but she was familiar with the unfamiliar. She grasped the straps of her backpack and took a deep breath. “Okay, Mabel, you’ve obviously discovered another rift and came to another dimension. Just remember what your grunkles taught you. Don’t touch this dimension's version of yourself or everything will explode. I just gotta live long enough for them to find me. Easy.” Her stomach suddenly growled. Mabel clenched her stomach on reflex, but then remembered her bag of marshmallows, pulled them out, and began to munch on her fluffy sugar pillows. She turned around and walked away from the tent she had left, saw she was in some sort of market, and walked down the street to explore calmly. ~~~~~~~~~~ “And remember to apply it twice a day for the best results.” Luz said friendly to a blue monster made out of goo as she handed her the small bag of dust and the customer closed the door on the human. Luz wiped her sweaty forehead with her wrist and groaned. “Man, it’s so hot today. Ready to head home, King? King?” She looked down to find that the king of demons had found the perfect spot on the porch to nap in the sunshine. Luz smiled, scratched his back, and scooped him up one-armed while her other hand carried the empty sack. “Eh?” King woke up, angry and cute. “Luz! I was having the perfect dream!” “About what?” “What could be more perfect than sleeping?!” “You were dreaming about sleeping?” Luz clarified with a confused smile. “Don’t you?” Luz snorted a laugh and walked through Bonesburrow. Compared to the rest of the Boiling Isles, the apprentice had learned that this was the quietest neck of the woods. King’s nose caught a delightful scent, but the demon was unsure if he should believe it. He sat up in Luz’s arm and smelled the air. “What is it?” Luz asked. “Hm, it’s sweet. Really sweet.” King commented and shivered. “Like, really sweet. So sweet it’ll put anyone in a sugar-induced coma.” “Well, why don’t we just go home and we can have some of Eda’s strawberry jelly instead.” Luz suggested as they turned a corner. She immediately saw the one really really weird thing in the Boiling Isles, apart from her. Another human. After being away from home for about three weeks, Luz didn’t think she would be so happy to see another human girl or see human food that wasn’t red, but here she was, eyes sparkling with happy tears over the sight. Mabel’s eye eventually landed on Luz and the two stared at each other, a good twenty feet away from each other. After a few moments, however, they both shouted, “ANOTHER HUMAN!” And ran towards each other, King clinging onto Luz’s arms in order not to fall. “Wait,” The brunette said and looked worried. “Is this your first time seeing another human here? How long have you been trapped here?!” She apparently had drawn the conclusion that there was no way out of this place. “Oh, no,” The Latino smiled and shook her head. “I’m not trapped here; I can leave whenever I want, I just choose not to.” “Oh. Cool! Hi! I’m Mabel!” “Hi, Mabel.” Luz greeted. “I’m Luz! So… how did you get here?” Mabel’s face dropped a little and she looked around. “You know, I’m not really sure. One minute I was camping with my family and the next I’m falling through a door that disappears and takes me here.” Luz giggled and shook her head. “You must have fallen through Eda’s door. Don’t worry, I can get you back home.” “You can?!” Mabel hugged her tightly, squishing King in between the two girls. “ThankyouthankyouTHANKYOU!” Luz, who was quite the hugger but lived with two hug-haters, grinned and relished in the hug, until a high-voice yelled, “AH! What is with you humans and this tight holding ritual?!” Mabel’s eyes got wide and she jumped away, looking around wildly; that voice sounded too familiar for comfort, but when she saw the king of demons, she gasped with a huge grin and shining eyes. “OH MY GOSH! How cute!!!” She squealed. “Thanks.” Luz giggled and rubbed his belly. “This is the King of Demons.” “This little bundle of joy?” Mabel asked, happily smoothing over his skull and scratching his back. “That’s what I said!” “Hey, hey, easy with the merchandise!” King complained. “What makes you think you can… oh! Oh! Right there, yup, right there.” Mabel had found the right scratching spot, just between his shoulder-blades, and King relaxed in Luz’s arms, almost asleep he was so comfortable. Mabel giggled and asked, “So, how can you get me back to my family?” Luz gave it a moment’s thought and said, “Well, I guess we could take you to Eda and have her send you home, but she’ll be going home soon and it’s kinda…” The girls screamed as a huge guard jumped in front of them. He glared down at the humans and said, “Human previously associated with Eda the Owl Lady, you’re hereby under arrest!” “Not today, sucka!” Luz yelled, threw down one of Eda’s smoke bombs, and grabbed Mabel’s wrist. “Come on! I know where to go!” “Crazy monsters, criminals, smoke bombs, demons… I LOVE IT HERE!” Mabel cheered as she was fleeing with her new friends. ~~~~~~~~~~ Stan huffed, catching his breath, with his hands on his knees. Ford helped Dipper up cautiously, scanning him over for broken bones from when the monster swung his tail at the boy and slammed him against a tree, but apart from being shaken up, he was fine. Now that the Stone-Reptilian was gone, the Pines men were free to worry about the most important thing in their whole world. “MABEL?!” Stan screamed and looked around wildly for the rift that took her away. “MABEL! MABEL, SWEETIE!” “Mabel!” Ford called out. “Mabel, can you hear us?!” “MABEL! MABEL!” Stan screamed and ignored his stinging eyes. Dipper’s own brown eyes were aching, too, but he refused to be seen as weak and he powered through. “Did… did that thing… g-g-get her?” “No.” Ford said firmly. “I saw it. She fell through… some sort of door, or a rift.” “A-A door?” “It was rectangular like one, but it was hard to tell.” “The Crawlspace!” Dipper gasped and slapped his forehead. “Don’t the entrances change randomly through Gravity Falls? What if she fell through and is down at the black market?” “What, you mean she’s probably surrounded by dangerous monsters in some freaky market?” Stan asked. “It’s a likely possibility.” Ford speculated, holding his cleft chin. “Scour the area. If it was an entrance to the Crawlspace, one will show up again soon.” The three men split up, relatively close, and searched for an anomaly. Maybe a hole in a tree or in the ground, what might have been passed as a bird’s nest or a groundhog’s home could actually be an entrance. Stan was checking some bushes when he thought he heard a strange noise and he looked ahead. A rectangular white light appeared on an oak tree and soon an owl with an empty sack in its beak hopped out. Stan gasped and thought that this was the doorway that took his little girl. Ford saw his twin run out of the corner of his eye and then disappear through the hole. “Stanley, wait!” He called and ran towards him, disappearing, too. Then the doorway was gone. Dipper looked around nervously. “Hello? Guys?” He paused, letting it sink in that, once again, he was alone. “I swear if she’s at MAB3L again…” ~~~~~~~~~~ Stan had stopped. Ford then accidently ran into him and they both fell forward. “Sixer, get off!” “Shh!” Ford slapped a polydactyl hand over his brother’s mouth, which made him grumble, but before Stan could lick his hand in response, he heard what Ford was hearing. “I’ll give you fifty snails for the whole lot.” A laugh-filled snort followed. “It’s seventy-five, kid. Take it or leave it.” That voice… something was familiar about that laugh. There was grumbling and what sounded like items being collected. Stan and Ford exchanged looks and slowly got up. After looking around the tent, they peered out of the crack in the curtains to see an odd market. They awed at the sight of dozens of weird creatures. One looked like a turquoise hairless-cat. One looked like a pig with green eyes and it breathed fire on a piece of meat on a stick to cook it for a snack. A kid with pointy ears dropped a basket full of eyeballs and scrambled to pick them up. Ford grinned excitedly like a dork while Stan winced at the sight of an ice-cream eating a customer. Stan glanced to his left and he had to hold his breath to keep from gasping and blowing their cover. Wearing a tight-fitted, torn maroon dress and matching boots, gold on her chest and ears and fingers and a sharp tooth, her eyes sparkling like gold coins, a woman with big gray hair and pointy ears leaned against a table full human things and flicked through a Gold Chains for Old Men magazine with a skeptical look on her face. Stan was nearly as pale as she was when she snorted another laugh and flipped a page. “Hah! Not a bad read. Better than that kindling Luz keeps around.” She mumbled and made herself comfortable in her chair, waiting for another customer, one leg crossed over the other and she lightly kicked it as she read. Stan swallowed. There was no way. No possible way… then again, given everything weird that’s happened to him, from freaky portal, to demon triangles, to gnomes and unicorns and sirens and krakens, even to a full-blown Weirdmageddon, should he really be all that surprised that faith would bite him in the butt like this? Ford glanced down at his twin and found he could read him like an open book. “Stanley…” He hissed. The lady straightened in her seat and looked up from the magazine, listening. Now it was Stan’s turn to cover Ford’s mouth. They were still, waiting for the ady to find them, but she shrugged casually and continued to read. The men backed away, out of sight, and were each on one knee, facing each other, as they whispered. “Sixer, where the heck are we? The Crawlspace?” “I’m not sure.” Ford hissed. “I have never seen these types of anomalies before. I suppose it’s possible they hide here during the day and I had never seen them at night, but… this place feels off. To summarize, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” “Fine, but when what do we do about Mabel?” “Our objection is still the same. Let’s just keep a low profile and try to find her.” The twins froze when the curtain was thrown open and the lady stood before them. She immediately sneered down at them. “If you amateur pickpockets think you can…” But then she stopped, for several reasons. One: these creatures were clearly old, about her age, and so unless they had a sudden career change, they were not amateurs. Two: as a human expert and a teacher and hostess of a human, she instantly recognized these two big-eared creatures as humans. Three: something about the one in the white shirt and red hat was very familiar. “No… way…” She narrowed her golden eyes. Stan was now confident that his memory wasn’t flawed; the way she reacted to seeing him, recognizing him, confirmed that he knew her. Before he could do anything, she grabbed each twin by the ear and pinched; they were at her mercy and receiving flashbacks from when their mother was angry with them. “You two got some explaining to do.” The lady sneered. “Gah! Let us go, crazy old bat!” Stan barked as she dragged them out from the tent and made them sit on barrels for stools. “Who are you calling old, human?” The lady sneered and crossed her arms over her chest. “Just tell me what you think you’re doing here.” “Begging your pardon on our introduction,” Ford said coldly, but then softened as he and his brother did have an important mission. “But our grandniece is missing. We believe she came through here.” And he pulled out a picture of Mabel hugging a stuffed-penguin from his wallet and showed it to her. The lady peered down at the photo and said, “Sorry, old-timers, I haven’t seen anyone like that around here.” “Now, how can we trust you, Marilyn.” Stan sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. Ford’s eyes widened as he pocketed his picture. He was rendered speechless for a moment. “Oh, like you’re one to talk about honesty, Stan.” She deride. “You two know each other?!” Ford gasped, looking from his brother to the stranger rapidly like a game of tennis. “She’s your ex-wife?!” The lady snorted a laugh and sighed happily. “Ah, good times, huh?” “Not really.” Stan sneered and stood. “You still owe me five hundred bucks!” “At least you got your car back, Grumpy.” The lady teased and patted his cheek; he swatted her hand away in response and growled like an angry pitbull. “If you want my help finding your girl then play nice.” “So, you honestly didn’t see her.” Stan repeated with a raised eyebrow. “Hey, I may be a conwoman, a pickpocket, and the most powerful witch you’ll ever meet, but I wouldn’t lie if it was gonna endanger some kid.” The lady snapped her fingers and all of the human collectibles floated and gathered into a green cloth, tied up like a hobo’s luggage. She pulled out a staff and put the bag through it, making it easy to carry. Eda whistled and the little owl flew to her and landed on her staff and turned into wood. “Come along, humans, we’ll find your niece and get you two home.” Ford followed the lady and decided to be the “nice” one since Stan was obviously too salty to be one; someone had to be nice to the lady that was going to help them find Mabel. “Thank you, Marilyn.” “Oh, right. That’s not my real name…” “Knew it.” “... you’re a fool to give your real name to a casino in Vegas. It’s Edalyn, but just call me Eda. Or your worst nightmare.” “Whatever you say, toots.” Stan growled as they walked down the street. “So, Eda,” Ford cut in to try to cut the tension between the two. “What exactly is this place, and what are you?” Eda stopped suddenly and turned around, wearing a proud grin. She stabbed her staff on the ground with a small bang, making the owl come to life, the sack hanging by her fist, and she proclaimed, “I am known as the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch here on the Boiling Isles!” “A witch?” Stan laughed. “More like a b…” “I am a feared, respected, vigorous force to be reckoned with!” Eda went on and let go of the staff so it floated like a witch’s broomstick. “Come on, old-timers, let’s get a bird’s eye-view to find your girl.” They each grabbed the staff when Eda sat upon it and yelled with fear as she had them fly up in the air, leaving the old twins to dangle in the air. “GAAAAAAAH!” “EDA!” Stan yelled. “Put us down!” “That can be arranged.” Eda said cunningly and swooped down quickly. With the air drying Eda’s eyes and forming tears and the brother holding onto the staff (and each other) for dear life, all three were yelling, one with delight, two with fright. “STANLEY!” Ford shouted. “PLEASE try not to piss off your ex-wife!” Eda laughed and at the very last second, right before the men would crash into the ground, she flew them up into the sky. “Ah, don’t worry, I won’t let you two knuckleheads get hurt.” They flew softer and calmer above the Boiling Isles and the humans awed at the scene. In the carcass of a monster, by the sea, the Bones of the Isles sat snug in the midst of chaos. Eda floated to allow the men a moment to take in the scenery, smiling down at their round brown eyes. “It’s beautiful.” Ford admired. “Yup, not too shabby.” Eda commented casually. “It’s not much, but it’s home.” “We know what that’s like.” Stan muttered. “Speaking of which,” Eda said casually. “Where did you two say you were from?” “We didn’t. Gravity Falls, Oregon.” Ford answered, keeping an eye out for Mabel. “Oh, I’ve heard rumors about that place.” Eda said as she flew calmly over the town. “My door has a bad habit of appearing there way too often. I need more variety in my human collectibles.” “So, you steal our junk and try to sell it for a great price?” Stan asked; he sounded a little impressed. “That and I sell potions on the weekdays. When I’m not mentoring my student. Enough chit-chat, see your girl down there?” The men took a few more minutes to look, as well as Eda, but there was no sign of her. “No.” Ford’s voice dripped with concern. “Eda, what are the chances she was kidnapped or hurt?” “Oh, that probably didn’t happen to her.” The witch said calmly. “If she’s not safe she probably got eaten or taken by Warden Wrath.” “WHAT?!” “Relax, Sixer,” Stan said, confident in his pumpkin. “She’s our little fighter, she’ll be fine.” Eda snorted. “Sixer?” “It’s Stanford, actually.” His face was a little red over the fact that he couldn’t hide his six-fingered hands, too busy holding the magic staff to keep from falling. “Meh, I’ve seen weirder.” Eda looked like she truly didn’t care how many fingers he had; Ford appreciated that. “Well, I’ve got a great tracker at home.” The Owl Lady said and started to fly towards the red forest. “Why don’t we go pick him up and see if he can help us out. Got anything the girl held?” “Yes,” When the men landed on their feet and Eda hopped next to them, Ford pulled out his wallet again and took out a folded-up, hand-drawn picture of Stan and Ford on a boat, a gift from Mabel while they were apart that she had mailed to them. “Aw, that’s so cute.” The witch cooed. “Who knew all Pines men were putty in girls’ hands.” She laughed at her own joke and shook her head. “Ah, keep moving, boys.” Stan hurried to catch up and he walked next to Eda with narrow eyes, ignoring the way her odd golden fang sparkled, how her eyes gleamed with spunk, how she held herself up high with pride. “So, you’re gonna answer some questions for me…” “Maybe I will, maybe I won’t.” “If you’re a witch, what were you doing in Las Vegas?” “Hey, a witch’s gotta make some gold, too.” Eda shrugged as she smiled. “I haven’t exactly kept a clean record here so making a living takes a bit of extra effort, but it’s much for fun and unpredictable, the way life's supposed to be.” Stan raised an eyebrow at two things: the fact his ex was a criminal in this world too, and her philosophy. “I can respect that, seeing how I was there for the same reasons.” “I know.” Eda rolled her eyes teasingly. “You wouldn’t shut up about how you were gonna make it big and show the world what this big lug could do.” And she elbowed Stan, which he chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. “Heh. Yeah, what can I say, I’m a real loud-mouth. Say what’s on my mind.” “Hey, nothing wrong with being brutally honest to make up for lying, am I right?” Eda said with a shrug. “So, was your hair fake back then, or…” “No, no, it was real. I was really proud of my hair back in the day, flaming red and wild.” “Looks pretty good now. Love it, in fact. Big and bold, hard to miss.” “Hey, you aged pretty well yourself, handsome.” Ford smiled as he watched the exes tease and pick on each other. If a compliment was given, it dripped with sarcasm and there was no guarantee that it was sincere, but they must have seen a gleam in their eyes or felt a “vibe” that Ford didn’t experience, because the conversation progressed well as they walked through the forest. Ford was happy to see Stan get along fairly well with this woman and wondered if this would go exceptionally better than the whole McCorkle incident. They emerged from the woods and found a large house standing by some cliffs leading to an ocean. It was about as far from the seas as Pines Pawns was all those years ago. The house was big, maybe bigger than the Mystery Shack (probably not if counting the basement-floors) with a big stain-glass window that reminded Stan of a cat’s eye and Ford of Bill’s eye, but then they both individually remembered Eda’s title and realized it was probably representing an owl’s eye. A weather-vane with an owl sat on top of the house, a broken-down tower stood behind, and an owl’s head was on the door. The humans were startled, but they quickly recovered, again having experienced much weirder than a live owl-head on a door. “Girl knows how to keep a theme going.” Stan commented as they approached. “Oh, boy!” The owl on the door hooted. “More company! Maybe they wanna hear some of my stories!” “Not a chance, Hooty.” Eda quipped. “Is King still home? We need his help, and we might want Luz’s too while we’re at it.” “They’re both telling stories to that new human. The one with the pretty owl sweater.” “Wait, what?!” The three old people asked and Hooty swung open the door. Luz was holding King on her lap on the couch, sitting with Mabel as all three were laughing. Even King was rolling around and holding his little fluffy body with glee. Mabel’s back was to the door and she resumed her storytelling as she wiped a tear under her eye. “So then I look down at Dipper and see that he’s still got his socks on!” Luz cackled a laugh and held her head one-handed, her other arm still holding King, but it was to no avail as the demon fell off from all the laughing. Eda, Ford, and Stan smiled as the girls were having fun. They had no idea how they found each other, but it was better for them to be here, safe and happy, than to have the newbie be someone’s meal. Luz fanned her reddening face and finally noticed the company. “Hi, Eda. Sorry, but she was lost and needs our help.” Mabel turned, on her knees on the couch, but grinned with a gasp. “GUYS!” And she hopped over the arm of the couch for her grunkles. “Mabel!” They opened their arms and got on one knee for their girl. Mabel ran into their hold and they hugged her tightly, relieved to be with her again and to find her more than okay. “What did I tell you about scaring me like that, pumpkin?!” Stan asked as he held her with all of his might. “You didn’t tell me, Grunkle Stan.” “Oh, right.” “We’re just so happy to find you alright, my dear.” Ford loosened his grip just enough to look up at Luz, who was smiling admirably at the reunion. “And I see you’ve made some friends.” Mabel let go and nodded. “Yeah! That’s Luz! Luz, these are my grunkles! Stan and Ford!” “Nice to meet you guys.” Luz said and waved politely. “Mabel said you’d come, but how did you two survive out there?” “They nearly didn’t.” Eda lied easily. “Were in the mouths of a giant giraffe when I saved their butts.” “Yeah right!” Stan barked a laugh. “Anyways, we’ve been through worse, kid.” Luz gasped excitedly. “Worse than giant bugs and centaurs with eyes on their chest and man-eating slugs and fire-breathing eye-less fangs and jealous witches?!” “Worse. I’ve punched a pterodactyl in the face and a few zombies, fallen down a Bottomless Pit, lost my hands to a witch, fought off eagles and explosions, survived giant man-eating spiders…” “Stanley, that is all impressive, but have you fought a talking chair, battled in four wars, conned an abominable snowman, outran a volcano, examined floating eyebats, been turned to gold…” “I find that hard to believe.” Eda snorted. “I believe them.” Luz said with a shrug. “You always said weird stuff leaks from this world into theirs.” “So, if you don’t mind me asking,” Ford said, stepping forward. “What exactly is this place? I’ve heard rumors of a place called the Boiling Isles, but I just thought it was a little hiding place like the Crawlspace, not an entirely new dimension.” “Nope!” Eda corrected happily. “This whole world is the Boiling Isles, a world full of despair, monsters, gross-stuff, demons, and magic.” “This place sounds so cool!” Mabel cheered. She looked at Luz and said, “No wonder you wanted to stay here. Wait! Do you have your own room?!” “Yeah! C’mon, I’ll show you!” And the girls ran off with Luz scratching King’s tummy and leaving him to nap on the floor, tired from laughing. Eda plopped down on the couch and gestured for the men to do the same. “I’d offer refreshments but all we have is apple blood and some disgusting beverage Luz likes called orange juice.” Stan looked up at the wanted poster of Eda and the reward promised for her capture. He smiled, impressed and interested. “We’re okay, thank you, Eda.” Ford said. “If you don’t mind me asking, our niece said something about Luz choosing to stay here?” “Yeah, that’s right.” Eda reached under her couch-cushion and rummaged as she spoke. “Kid came through my door when Owlbert brought over some little treasures to sell. Sweet girl. Kinda naive and gullible, but clever in her own right and she’s a fast learner. Stubborn with the forces of positivity.” Stan snorted. “Heh. We know someone like that.” “She said she didn’t fit in at home.” Eda finally found what she was looking for and pulled out a wrinkled, crumpled up pamphlet at read, Reality Check Summer Camp: Think Inside the Box. “Don’t really understand some of this human stuff, but I figured it must be pretty bad if it made a kid not wanna go home, so I read over it and this place sounds awful! Totally squandered any creativity or individualism! Her own mother was sending her here!” Eda let Ford look it over and she shrugged off the rant. “Anyway, she said she wanted to stay and she was willing to work for it, so I took her in as my apprentice for the summer and now she’s learning how to be a witch.” “Hm, sounds a lot better than kidnapping.” Stan approved with his arms crossed over his chest. “This place is completely horrible.” Ford commented about the summer camp. “They teach kids how to appropriate public radio!” “AM or FM?” “Both.” “Ouch.” “So, what exactly are you doing with such a cute girl, Eight-Ball?” Eda asked, getting Stan’s attention. “And what is a grunkle?” She snorted with a smile. “She’s our grandniece.” Stan said proudly, puffing out his chest. “We’re her great-uncles. Her grunkles.” “Aw, who knew you were such a softie?” “I am not!” “You watched over five hours of video-tutorials on how to braid hair.” Ford said behind the pamphlet. “She asked me to braid her hair and it bothered me that I couldn’t do it!” Eda cackled and touched Stan’s shoulder. His eyes followed and he smiled at her cute laugh. “Aw, you’re worse than King.” King peeked an eye at her and sneered, “One more passive aggressive comment and I’ll…” “That’s not a passive aggressive comment.” Eda said as she picked up the little goofball. “I can do better than that.” “Huh, and here I was thinking that was just one of Luz’s toys.” Stan teased. “Hey!” King stood on the couch by Eda’s side and pointed a bony paw at the old man. “Since you’re a human, I’ll let you walk away with a warning, but have it be known that I’m the King of Demons and shall one day drink the fear of those who mock me!” Ford folded the pamphlet and observed King cautiously. He didn’t like… his voice. His voice sent shivers down the old scientist’s spine. Stan snorted. “Sorry, pipsqueak, but I’ve faced worse demons than you.” “Oh, yeah, like what?” King asked. The girls came back, smiling and holding hands, and Luz asked, “Eda, can we please please PLEASE have a sleepover?! I want to show Mabel the new light spell I learned and show her how to properly scratch a demon’s tummy.” Ford chuckled and stood. “I’m sorry, ladies, but we really should be heading back. I’m sure Dipper is worried sick.” Mabel gasped with horror. “Oh, NO! Dipper!” “Oh, hey, don’t worry.” Luz eased. “You two are totally welcome here anytime you want.” “Aw, thanks, Luz.” Mabel hugged her and said, “I promise I’ll bring Dip-Dip next time. He’d love it here! And he could tell you all about the Manotaurs and the weird copy-machine.” Eda and Stan stood up, too, and the Owl Lady had her arms crossed over her chest. “Well, looks like we’ll be seeing each other again pretty soon. You okay with them hanging out?” Stan shrugged and pocketed his hands in his jeans. “Yeah, sure. Good friends are kinda rare these days. Gotta hold onto ‘em and never let ‘em go.” “Agreed.” Eda said and saw them exchanging those odd codes on their glowing rectangles. “Well, have your girl tell my girl when to open the door and I’ll see what I can do.” And she held out a hand to Stan. He hesitated (not just because of whose hand it was, but because shaking hands always seemed to lead to something bad, but maybe this time will be different), but he took it and shook it gently. “Yeah, and if your girl never needs a break in the human world, have her tell my girl.” Eda smiled at Stan and shook Ford’s hand, as well. She pulled the key out of her hair and unlocked the door, making it appear and swing open. Mabel skipped to her great-uncles and waved goodbye to Luz, who waved back, and she went with Ford through the door for home. Stan stole one last look at Eda, who winked at him, and he disappeared with a pink face.
Author’s Note: OKAY, first things first, when it comes to fic, I personally don't really like crossovers. Crossovers can be a fun NON-CANON crossover for animation or actors. I get more enjoyment over fun fanart than I so of fics, because I like mine more plot-driven and it's hard to get a good story going just because you wants certain characters to mingle. HOWEVER, I find Gravity Falls and The Owl House just fit so well together! Why? #1: Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace (the creators) are dating and Dana Terrace is responsible for the awesome Ducktakes reboot (season 1, anyway) AND the famous Not What He Seems scene. So having such a strong connection creativity wise of the shows is very apparent, more so than the other shows. #2: Evidence that supports these connections. Both shows have referenced each other and a theory goes that Eda and Stan were once married for less than a day. (plz check this video for more) And #3: ... I ship it pretty damn hard, okay? So I hope you guys will enjoy this fun little crossover as much as me! And thank you so much for reading!
